Dear
shipoween creator,
Thank you so much for making something for me! I'm very excited to see what you come up with.
If you're interested in a little more detail about what I like, I've included some info below.
General preferences:
Things I Like: Competence (so much love for characters being competent!), friendship, understated romance, equal partnerships in romantic relationships, secrets being revealed, first times of all kinds, outsider POVs, stories that draw on the characters' pasts, brief moments of emotional and especially romantic vulnerability from generally stoic characters, stories that pick up dropped plot threads, and characters doing the right thing even when it costs them. Happy fic is good, and so is mild to moderate angst with a happy or hopeful or bittersweet ending. I also enjoy a good trope story, especially tropes like road trips, forced proximity (handcuffed together, sharing a bed, etc.), undercover as a couple and truth serum/in vino veritas/truth or dare.
Things I Don't Want: Dom/sub, A/B/O, genderswap, incest, long and detailed descriptions of recoveries from traumatic events, permanent mental or physical injuries to major characters that don't occur in canon, and crack. I'd also rather avoid complete and mundane AUs (e.g., coffee shop AUs, high school AUs, etc.) unless otherwise noted. The one exception to this is noir detective AUs. I'm always up for a good hardboiled detective story.
Other Things: I'm flexible on both genre and rating: plot-driven, character-driven, action, introspection, slice of life...it's all good. So is anything from G to NC-17--whatever the story calls for. I have squicks but no triggers. I'm good with character death, including main and requested characters, unless otherwise noted. Background non-con is fine if it's helpful for the story, but I'd rather it not be the primary focus. Dubcon is fine as long as it doesn't traumatize anyone too badly. I'm fine with present or past tense in fic. As noted in my sign-up, I'm good with spooky, seasonal, or no theme for all of my requests.
Also, I'm
skieswideopen on AO3.
Benjamin January Mysteries - Barbara Hambly
Benjamin January/Abishag Shaw, Benjamin January & Abishag Shaw
January and Shaw have one of my favourite relationships in the books--lots of mutual respect and liking, circumscribed by the laws and customs of the time, with just a little willingness to bend those rules when necessary. I'll be equally happy with a gen or shippy gift here, so feel free to go with whichever appeals to you more.
For fic, case fic is always good and so are brief, quiet moments together. Seasonal or spooky is welcome too. For more specific prompts, some variant on in vino veritas could be interesting given how reluctant Shaw tends to be to talk about his past, and given the many barriers that existed to even interracial friendship, let alone the obvious risks of openly admitting a desire for anything more. Trapped in a cabin together or a bit of hurt/comfort with one taking care of the other while injured could also be fun.
If you're going the shippy route, two requests: I would rather not have Ben cheating on Rose, so maybe set it before he meets her or otherwise eliminate that aspect. And I'm really not into Shaw's complete unwillingness to practise personal hygiene, so if you could gloss over that or maybe have him fall into a convenient lake before engaging in any intimate activities, I'd really appreciate it.
For art, I like emotional art or interesting backgrounds or art that hints at a story. I'm not particularly interested in explicit art.
Captain Marvel
Goose & Nick Fury (CM 2019)
I'm all about the adventures of Goose and Fury here. Some sort of case where Goose helps out, maybe, or something domestic as Fury tries to figure out how to take care of an alien pet, or a story about how surprisingly useful Goose can be in navigating the intelligence political scene (or dealing with fellow agents), or maybe some other time Goose saved Fury's life.
If you want to go seasonal--investigating mad scientists or a haunted house or zombies or something--that could be fun too. Basically I'd like anything about the two of them.
For art, I like emotional art or interesting backgrounds or art that hints at a story. I'm not particularly interested in explicit art. (Probably not relevant here.)
(I promise the relative length of this request in no way reflects how much I want this versus other fandoms!)
Marvel Cinematic Universe
Loki/Tony Stark (MCU), Gamora/Natasha Romanov (MCU)
Loki/Tony
I've been on a bit of a Loki/Tony kick lately, largely driven by their similarities: their snarkiness, their need to demonstrate that they're the smartest one in the room, their skill in science/magic, their issues with their fathers. Being held prisoner and forced to do things they wouldn't otherwise have done, if you believe Loki was influenced or coerced into attacking Earth. I love their banter. I love the fact that they're both very smart and super-competent. I love that they continue to function despite being damaged. I would love any gift that shows off those things.
I'd be interested in reading something set post-Thor: Ragnorak, with its semi-redeemed Loki, in a version where the Asgardians reach Earth without encountering Thanos. Maybe something set on Earth, with Tony helping the Asgardians set up their new home? Or maybe Tony ends up running errands in space or negotiating with the other realms with Loki (and possibly others). Space road trip? Undercover as a couple to get vital supplies needed to defeat Thanos? Weird magic bracelets that won't let them stray more than six feet apart? AMTDI? Tony observing Loki interacting with Thor and the Asgardians and trying to figure him out and/or see if he's still a threat? Loki realizing that Tony is unexpectedly fascinating and useful?
For other ideas: Have Tony somehow wind up on Asgard while Loki is posing as Odin? An Endgame fix-it? Exploring what it really means for Loki to be a god? Truth or dare? Two truths and a lie? The risks of playing games with the god of mischief? Something pre-Thor, where Tony ends up on Asgard prior to the coronation fiasco? (Feel free to play around with timelines.)
Cheating isn't one of my official DNWs, but I'd rather Tony not cheat on Pepper unless it's vital to the story. A hint at a past breakup or something along those lines is fine.
While I'm generally picky about genderswap, I'm fine with Loki shapeshifting into a female form, or temporarily shifting Tony into a woman. I'm also okay with a BDSM vibe as long as it's limited to the bedroom and doesn't echo through their whole relationship. Oh, and I really, really don't buy that Loki would ever voluntarily wear sweatpants--not when his canonical Midgardian outfit of choice is a suit.
Natasha/Gamora
Like Tony and Loki, I like Natasha and Gamora because they share some similarities: They're both strong fighters and competent women who, from a young age, were pushed into doing things that they now regret. It seems like a solid grounding for the start of some sort of relationship.
I'm happy to embrace vague hand-waving as to how they end up in the same place. Maybe Clint dies instead of Natasha, and Nat ends up leaving with Gamora post-Endgame because she can't bear to stay on Earth. Or maybe neither Clint nor Natasha die and Gamora ends up sticking around post-Endgame because she has nowhere else to go, and Natasha feels a need to keep an eye on her. Or maybe it all takes place pre-Endgame, with Gamora somehow, at some point, winding up on Earth. Whatever you can come up with.
I don't have a lot of specific prompts here. I mostly just want to see the two of them being awesome together, and maybe finding some unexpected comfort in each other after everything they've been through.
Stargate Atlantis
Cameron Mitchell/John Sheppard
John/Cam is one of my all-time favourite pairings. There's not much canon to work with, of course, but they're both Air Force pilots of a similar age and both involved in the Stargate program, so I don't think it's too difficult to put them together.
I'm pretty relaxed about what I receive here. Getting together? Established relationship? Figuring out their mutual interest because of a mission? Something dealing with their families at home? Being sent to investigate the weird (alien? mad scientist?) energy readings Stargate Command is picking up in a little New England town while John happens to be on Earth? Stranded on another planet? Stuck on a post-apocalyptic Earth? The stress of hiding a relationship under DADT? Cam worrying some new Pegasus ally who's making a lot of demands on John-the-best-gene-carrier? What happens after the Stargate program goes public? Halloween on Atlantis? Celebrating the Pegasus equivalent of Halloween?
Tropes are welcome too, of course; especially the ones that lead to their getting together: undercover as a couple or alien mind-reading tech or aliens strongly pressured them to do it or snowed in with a ghost.
For art, I like emotional art or interesting backgrounds or art that hints at a story. I'm not particularly interested in explicit art.
Thank you again!
