Savoring, Gratitude, Social Connection, Kindness, Exercise & Meditation - Day 41/33/25/18

May 11, 2020 21:33

So I've reached the point in The Science of Well Being where I'm just supposed to focus for a month on improving one of these things.

I think my goal is still going to be to hit them all each day (apparently I only had to be doing them for that week or so I was in each unit - whoops), but I'm not going to worry about it if I miss most of them. The primary one I want to focus on for the next month is Gratitude, since I think it has made such a difference in my thinking overall the last month.

The others I'd like to try to continue incorporating regularly are savoring and meditation. Also, I freaking hate exercise, but it does make a difference too, so yes to the exercise.

I blatantly sucked at kindness, so we're just going to let go of that. I'll note social connection when it happens, since it does make my quarantined self happy. And sleep I generally do really well already, so I'm going to stop tracking that. If I'm not working, I'm getting 7-9 hours of sleep a night. If I am working, I do try. I know I don't function well without it.

Savoring
I savored yoga today. Surprise. Who knew I'd actually start to like it a bit. The more of it I do though, the more my body just wants to stretch. It's a lot like swimming.

Gratitude
1. I'm grateful for my dad. He tries so hard with me sometimes. He found a Gravity Hill for us to explore on Saturday. He tries to pick up food I'll like when I'm home. I'm grateful that he tries.
2. I'm grateful for my brother. He's just the best brother and I miss him a lot. He is pretty definitely the hug I'm most looking forward to on the other side of this quarantine. We've spent tons and tons of time apart over the years, but I've been spoiled the last two years of us being around each other a lot more.
3. I'm grateful the cod I cooked for the first time tonight turned out pretty good.
4. I'm grateful for the sunshine on the walk I took.
5. I'm grateful for catchups with Alicia.

Social Connection
I chatted with Alicia for about an hour and half tonight.

Kindness
Actually, I shared an event on Twitter today in the hopes that it would help garner some more attendees because I thought it might help them.

Exercise
One hour of yoga! Up a full 30 minute from usual. And a 40 minute walk in the park.

Meditation
I did a 10 minute chakra meditation this morning.
