Prefect's Camp. Three days of adventure-based learning. Three days of senior-junior bonding and just a general bucket-load of fun. Yup. I just got back a few hours ago and here goes the somewhat big post. Pics are behind the cut!
We started out on Friday morning, a huge group of extremely noisy, loud and excited prefects in red. We kept our luggage in the Prefect's Room before the buses arrived and when they did, we carried them out in a chain. I was high on ... well, I definitely didn't have sugar that day. But I felt hyper anyway. The bus was complete chaos! The radio was on way too loud and everyone in the back of the bus was singing in terribly out of tune voices.
After an hour, I had had enough. I did what no other prefect thought of doing, no matter how much our eardrums felt like imploding into our skulls, causing major brain haemorrhage. I got out of my seat, tears streaming out of my eyes and ... asked the bus driver to switch off the radio. The sudden silence. It was beautiful. Sorry about the fuzzy pictures.
This was taken during our journey there. If I'm right, it's a dam. Very very pretty.
Random trees and the sky.
The rest of the journey was fairly uneventful. The camp was at Fraser's Hill, Pahang. Lots of winding roads and ear-popping before we reached our resort. The weather was fantastic! Cool and slight drizzles every hour. Sure, it sounds damp but to me it was better than sweating in my blazer at school. Everyone bundled up in jackets and hoodies and we made our way to our apartments. The building blocks was on a slope, so we had to walk slowly up while dragging our bags behind us. Once there, I had to climb up four or five flights of slippery stairs to my apartment, which was at the very top of the building. I guess it was worth it ... the scenery from the balcony was beautiful.
This one was taken around seven in the morning. So awesomely cold out there.
First day of camp was mostly indoor activities, watching clips, forming teams and all that. One activity had everyone being given different instructions and putting them together ... without speaking. My instructions were to sit quiet and just watch what everyone else does. My teammates kept trying to get the directions to building the little Lego tower we were building out of me and all I could do was shake my head. xD Finally, the instructor gave us the all-clear and we could speak again. My team's result:
Then we had an outdoor course. We had to get down and crawl for a bit so I got mud all over my front, which was pretty cool. That night, we were supposed to go on a night-blindness walk into the jungle. We even watched a little clip by the instructor, telling us that if we respect nature, nature will respect us. I got really hyped up. But when we were lined up outside the resort and began walking up the road to the jungle trail ... it started to rain. Not tiny pittering drops, but great fat splotches of water. I was wearing my cap and hoodie, so I was OK. But since that the ground was all muddy, they decided to abort the activity. We were already outside the opening to the jungle trail that time, so they decided on something else: letting everyone walk back down the hill to the resort in groups of threes on our own. My group of three were me, Tarsha and Shasha. We looped arms and trudjed along in the rain, staring down at the road. The streetlights made patterns in the puddles, making it look like fireworks going off on the tar. It was already past midnight at that point and we could barely see three metres ahead of us. It was a different experience. I'd do it again, given the chance. My hoodie took the entire trip to dry up though.
The next morning, I found this bug lying on the ground outside the sliding door. Everyone else was freaked out by it, but I didn't want it to get squished, so I let it climb unto my scissors and carried it to the balcony wall. But when I put it there, it refused to let go of my scissors. Everytime I tried to take it away, it hissed at me! I got it back in the end, after pleading with it and saying 'please'. Then I said 'thank you.'. =)
More bug pictures, just for the fun of it:
That day, we did abseiling, archery, a compass game and even had a go on the flying fox. Archery was the absolute best! We were given ten arrows each. And I scored a bullseye for my very last arrow. I didn't have my camera then, but the picture's with my senior, so I'll have to get it from her. It rained again during the compass game. Good thing my mum packed my dad's windbreaker into my luggage, since that my hoodie was dripping rainwater onto the apartment floor carpet. Soon after that we went jungle-trekking. The trail was quite tame since that most of us were first-timers in there. For me it was my second, first being when I was twelve. I loved it; it was wet as anything, but the sound of water dripping and insects humming was lovely. I wish I'd had the chance to take a few pictures. But I didn't want to risk spoiling the camera.
Mine, Tarsha, Shasha and Liyana's shoes after the trek. Thus the reason why I bought brown shoes. It doesn't look so bad. xD
Random tree.
One of the roads we walked on. Leading to the town on Fraser's Hill. Small place, with a golf course, a few cafes and the odd souvenir store.
After the trek things slowed down a little. We had a little presentation the second night, and my team did a short comedy sketch on prefects before and after camp. We only had an hour to prepare but the instructors said that they were impressed by the results. :D That night my roomies and I watched Shrek at midnight. I fell asleep halfway through and woke up to find that everyone had finished watching the movie and were moving back to the bedrooms. I woke up the next morning with my whole body stiff and aching.
There was a treasure hunt the third day ... nothing too fancy. We checked out a while after that.
And now I don't want to go to school tomorrow. Drat it, flag duty!
Ps. The reason behind the lost spartanarrow sparrow? My group was called the Sparrows. After the archery, we called ourselves the Arrow Sparrows. Then Tarsha and I were reminded of Aidil yelling out "SPARTANS!" during drama practise. So we became the Spartanarrow Sparrows. Then we joked that we'd get lost during the compass game. And so, the Lost Spartanarrow Sparrows were born.
...
I seriously want a t-shirt of that now.
