Jealousy is a vice

I was looking for this quote for a while, and I finally remembered where I had seen it first - politicalcompass.org:

He says naïvely, outspokenly and without suggestion of embarrassment "I, the Lord thy God, am a jealous God."
It is only another way of saying "I, the Lord thy God, am a small God; fretful about small things"
-Mark Twain, Letters From the Earth.

It's taken kind of out of context, but I think it accurately sums up how I feel about the "written word of God."  Besides the fact that we don't know where most of the words came from, and that even if it was it's been all mucked up by humans, I just have a hard time believing in all of the rules.  Religion should inspire you to be a good person, to love and to take care of the world we're in.  The man upstairs should expect no more, no less.  Pascal's wager assumes God thinks blind faith is a virtue.  But I don't believe in a jealous God.
