黑暗 - darkness -
“Where did you pick my name up?”
“Magic?” Jonghyun leaned forward, pressing his forehead against the cold bars, giving Taemin a slight smirk during that process. Sure, it wasn’t really possible to see it but Taemin still could tell it was there.
“I don’t believe in hocus-pocus, sorry.” Taemin wrinkled his nose a little. Now he knew why his father warned him about Raptor. That psycho really seemed to love playing games with his visitors.
“Then I suppose I just noticed your smell and discovered that it reminded me of the senior physician. That made me really curious so I kind of analyzed your facial features and compared them to Jinki’s. No surprise, there were lots of similarities which is why I came to the conclusion that you just have to be his younger brother. Quite logical, isn’t it?”
While Raptor was busy explaining his methods, Taemin gave his father a stunned glare. Apparently this man really was different. Completely different and Taemin couldn’t help but thinking that he was rather fascinating.
“Are you serious?”
“Not at all, your name is written on the note pad you’re carrying around with you.” Raptor gave a slight shrug then pointed at the note pad, which Taemin started to hug even tighter, when he felt Raptor’s gaze on him. Raptor didn’t seem to care instead he just turned away from the bars.
The interest that had sparked up in him firstly had died again. He doubted that this kid would be able to amuse him for more than a few minutes. “Anyway, what exactly do you want? This is not a zoo, you know? You can’t just come here and stare, so, talk to me, Taemin.”
In that very moment everything went awfully quiet. Everyone except Taemin was holding his breath, making quite a shocked face. Taemin had no idea what was happening but how could he? His father never told him about how Raptor never talked to someone first and always waited for questions which he preferred to ignore in the end.
Under normal circumstances Raptor would have vanished in some dark corner of his cell and played dead until the visitor would leave again but this time it was different. Taemin obviously caught his interest. God knew why.
Jinho threw a short, alarmed glance at his oldest son. It wasn’t hard to tell that Jinki was just as confused and equally nervous. Both of them definitely thought about taking Taemin out of the clinic but they just remained still. Taemin needed to talk to Jonghyun because and who knew, maybe the clinic could benefit from it.
“I really need something, yes.” Taemin bravely took one step forward und dared to peep in the cell. Earlier he hadn’t found the opportunity to take a closer look at “Raptor’s room” but now he just couldn’t help but look around curiously.
Disregarding the inhabitant, the cell was empty. Not completely empty since there was some kind of uncomfortable looking folding bed and a chair. Both things were bolt down. Just to make sure, Taemin assumed.
Still, he couldn’t quite imagine how the calm looking man in front of him suddenly grabbed the chair and smashed it against the bars. That picture just didn’t work in Taemin’s mind.
He doesn’t seem to be dangerous but the doctor must have thought the same thing before he got bitten, Taemin reminded himself quickly, nipping any sympathy for Jonghyun right in the bud. He still was a murderer, he didn’t deserve sympathy.
“I’m studying criminology and-”
“… and your bachelor thesis is about me, I guess.” Jonghyun threw a short glance over his shoulder. “Your professor seems to be a man with taste.”
Narcissist. Taemin rolled his eyes, snuffling a little. That wasn’t exactly the way he wanted the conversation to run.
“Ts, ts. Every human being is some kind of Narcissist. Don’t think you are any different, Taemin.”
“Excuse me?!” Taemin raised his right eyebrow. Sometimes it was really difficult to follow Raptor’s mental leaps and he just hoped that this wouldn’t become a problem later. “I … I don’t have time for your playing.”
“But I do. I have a lot of time. So you either adjust to me or look for another psycho.”
Taemin could feel how Jonghyun’s behavior changed a little and how the mood was slowly turning. He didn’t seem angry or annoyed just his tone changed a little. It was threatening and made Taemin’s hair stand on end. At the same time cold shivers ran down the boy’s spine, making him realize that he had to obey Jonghyun’s rules if he wanted this to work out.
Taemin didn’t like the idea but there was no other option. It was either obeying Jonghyun’s rules or changing the topic of his thesis.
“Fine.” Taemin sighed as he closed his eyes and massaged his temples. “Have it your way but-WAH!”
Once again, Raptor just appeared in front of him but this time they were much closer. So close that Taemin could even sense his smell. He never wanted to get this close to Jonghyun, no, but now only centimeters separated them. Just a few centimeters and, thank god, some nice and robust iron bars.
“Scaredy cat,” Raptor noted silently as he let his eyes wander. “I’ll tell you what you want to hear but since I’m really shy I suggest the others leave first.”
Taemin knew that this was just another of those games, Jonghyun seemed to love so much and needed to kill time. There was no way a psychopath and murderer like him could be shy, not even by half.
“So you’re suggesting leaving my little brother here alone with you so that you can fill his head with crazy ideas?” Jinki shook his head in a skeptical way as he took a step forward, flipping his finger against the younger man’s forehead. “I’m sure you’ll understand that I don’t like the idea and-”
“I’m not a child anymore, Jinki.” Taemin quickly butted in, giving his older brother no time to say another thing. “Just go and let me handle this, okay? We’ve been through this more than ten times by now and it’s enough. Trust me and go.”
Latest by now Jinki realized that there was no chance of talking this whole thing out of his little brother. He had to admit that the very thought of leaving Taemin alone with Raptor and just some guards made his skin crawl. After all, he knew Jonghyun’s tricks - he knew them far too well for his own liking.
“Okay but promise you’ll-”
“Yeah, Jinki, in case it gets too much for me I’ll leave immediately, run to you and ask you to hold my hand.” Taemin threw his hands up in horror. That Jinki always treated him like some kindergarten child was so annoying! Sure, he was his older brother and Taemin knew how he loved to baby him but this was something he had to do by himself. Couldn’t Jinki just respect this?
“Yeah, that was very funny, Taem.” Jinki sighed as he softly patted Taemin’s head. The younger boy seemed to be pretty confident, so why should he waste more time and not just let Taemin have his way? “I’ll keep you in view.”
With that said Jinki gave his father a small nod, gesturing him to follow him back to the elevator. The corridor leading back had never seemed so long to Jinki and he was quite sure that this was because he was worried sick about Taemin.
Oh boy, it was about time. As Taemin watched his father and brother walking away a smirk spread across his face. He got some time alone with “his” psycho and that was he all he had wanted. The nervousness which came along with it wasn’t so comfortable though.
“So, you’re feeling more comfortable now?”
Raptor grinned behind his mask. Taemin had no idea how comfortable he really was; without Jinki watching him, free to say everything - almost everything - he wanted.
“You can bet,” he purred lowly as he sat down on the bolt down chair. “But I can tell you’re not. You’re scared.”
Taken by surprise Taemin raised an eyebrow. How would Raptor know that he was scared?
“I’m not scared,” he said as calm as he could manage. It sure was a lie but Jonghyun wouldn’t be able to catch that, no way.
“Then tell me one thing, “ Raptor chuckled almost inaudibly, “Why is your heart beating so fast?”
Taemin’s reaction to his words made him smirk. The redhead seemed to have turned to stone for a little while, obviously debating with himself. In the end he just took a fountain pen out of his bag, not answering him at all. Maybe playing with Taemin would end up being more fun than he thought in the beginning.
“You should relax a little, Taemin. I can almost smell how scared you are and I begin to wonder if Jinki should come back to really hold your hand.” Cheekily, Raptor tilted his head to the side. By now he was only interested in picking on Taemin while trying to push him to his limits. He was quite sure that the redhead would lose control eventually, just like everyone else before him.
“Glad you like talking so much but how about saving your breath and talking about things I’m actually interested in?” Taemin smiled his angelic smile towards his project then busied himself with noting the date and the exact time. Once Jonghyun would be finished with playing, Taemin was ready to jot down whatever he had to say. “I told you I’m a criminology student, right? So, why don’t we start with the motive? Once you’re done with your teasing, of course.”
Taemin was no fool and he never forgot that it was important to treat Raptor politely but his precocious talking really was a pain.
“Oh, you’re so convincing, kid. Of course I’ll you everything you want to know.” Raptor took a deep breath as he leaned back into his chair. It wasn’t very comfortable but it’d do. “What do you want to hear?”
Okay, that’s too easy.
Taemin furrowed his brow suspiciously. His father and Jinki told him how it was almost impossible to get something out of Raptor but now it didn’t really seem that way.
“You’re not fucking with me again?” Taemin wanted to make sure as he made a small side note. He just had to make a note of Jonghyun’s weird behavior.
“Would I lie to you?” Raptor ran his fingers through his hair, glaring at Taemin in that process. It was the first time Taemin was able to look into both of the older man’s eyes.
They were, just like the redhead noticed before, dark. Scarily dark but still different from what he had expected them to be. Jonghyun’s eyes were beaming with calmness and honesty. Taemin’s breath caught - how was it possible that someone like Raptor suddenly appeared so innocent?
“Yeah, sure. Whatever.” Taemin shook his head a little, clearing this throat slightly before he finally sat down on the floor. He could have looked for a chair but he hadn’t wanted to let Jonghyun slip out of his focus. “So, may I ask you some questions now?”
“Sure, just go ahead. I’m really excited.”
“Have you always been that sarcastic?”
“Oh, that’s a nice question. What makes you think so?”
“I’ll take that as a yes.” Taemin rolled his eyes but just continued questioning. It was about time he asked the really interesting questions. He had no idea how to write the thesis but he was sure he could well build on Jonghyun’s motive and life story. “When and where were you born?”
“I can’t remember. It’s been a long time since then,” Jonghyun answered apologetically, giving a slight shrug. He knew Taemin wouldn’t like this answer but some things about him and his past were better off a secret. A secret he intended to keep. “Next question.”
“How am I supposed to make you a birthday cake when you won’t tell me about your birthday?” Taemin countered quickly, hoping to surprise Jonghyun and getting some details.
“Cake?” Jonghyun looked up slowly. “Did you just say cake?”
Okay, what’s that now? Slightly confused, Taemin tilted his head. From one second to the next Raptor acted totally different. His arrogance seemed to have vanished just to be replaced by something that nearly threw Taemin off track: Innocence.
How is that possible? Are there really two different persons? That can’t be!
“I suppose you like cake?!”
“No, not at all.” Raptor sighed deeply, leaning back against the back of his chair. This never had happened in front of another person before. Taemin sure knew how to mess with his head. “Next question.”
“Hm …” Slightly lost in thought, Taemin furrowed his brow. The innocence was gone again, just as quick as it appeared, weird.
Impossible … The boy scratched the back of his head. He had no idea how long he had been staring at Raptor right now but there was just no way to stop it now.
He casted a glance over the muzzle Jonghyun was wearing. It seemed more like some kind of mask; a mask, which was covering the lower side of Jonghyun’s face. It was fixed with leather straps and a small lock, as far as Taemin could see. He wondered if Raptor would have been able to get rid of the mask if he wanted.
That can’t be comfortable, Taemin thought as he licked his dry lips.
“It’s just as uncomfortable as it looks but if you believe it or not, you’ll get used to it.” Raptor slipped his finger underneath the leader straps, tugging on it a little. “Anyway, if that’s all then-”
“No! Wait, that wasn’t all. There’s more I need to know.” Taemin pressed his hands against the solid iron bars. “Why don’t you tell me how were raised? And I want to know why you killed all those people.”
“Ah, the usual suspects, huh? Life story and motive?”
“If you don’t mind?” Taemin bit his lip expectantly, waiting.
“Not at all~”
