I say swear off that crack! No more wasted time suckling the nipple some virtual surrogate of the real, feeling, thinking, acting thing: human beings. Life is the greatest drug and I am hooked, but I first learned through cold turkey: I haven't had a computer for 5 months now (come to the AA meetings baby!). I use public terminals at Universities, Libraries and youth-hostel terminals- and sparingly. No more worries about computer simulations, virtual reality or Internet "society" trying to suck me in...Seriously, if you are having trouble finding meaning from the flickering lights of computer and television screens, go back to the source of all meaning: humanity; the most beautiful complexity we have yet found. The more you retract in isolation, the more vulnerable -especially under stress of grades or finances or perhaps repressed sexual drive- you are to the fragility of the individual mind. Remember, we didn't evolve in isolation; we evolved as a tribe. I am not saying we should swear off technology, I am just asking you to come back to us, John. My good friend, give me a call.
