Susan sits in the library working on her Charms essay. She's not in the mood for the hustle and bustle of the common room tonight, and is hoping to revise in peace. She'zs making some notes from a book on charms she's just checked out when someone joins her table. Looking up, she sees it's Hannah, who appears to be quite upset about something

When he glances up from his book, there she is, walking towards Susan's table. Anthony is worried to see Hannah looking sad and upset again. He listens carefully to the girls' conversation, hoping for a clue - which he gets almost immediately.
She's talking about Ernie... MacMillan.
His first reaction is one of bitter disappointment.
She's sad because he's dating someone else. That must mean she fancies him... She fancies another bloke...
Then his disappointment turns to anger, so vivid he can't remember the last time he felt that way.
He insulted her... not once but twice! so this is why she's been acting this way. This beautiful, wonderful girl fancies him and this is how MacMillan repays her - he must have shite for eyes - no, shite for brains!

But even if I can't comfort her... maybe those Hufflepuffs prats could use a bit of a lesson in gallantery. Especially MacMillan.
Anthony has never been fond of him - he knows MacMillan wants to be Head Boy as much as he does - but the fact that Hannah fancies him and that he hurt is too much for Anthony to handle.

He wants to tell these words to her, but he knows he can't; so he stays with his nose buried in his book, though nothing he's reading is making sense. She obviously still has feelings for MacMillan, as much as he hates to admit it.

What happened to him, anyway? I've not scared him off since I found out he was in Ravenclaw I hope?
"I suppose you're right, it is quite flattering to get these poems, but I just wish I knew who was sending them," Hannah says, remembering her owl exchanges with the author.

What I wouldn't give to read them aloud to her... I have to find a way to let her know I'm still thinking about her.

She's upset over Ernie, yet she's keeping these poems with her. Does she even know what she wants?
She reads the poem, finding it rather nice, but reading it over again to see if she can help Hannah figure out who sent it. "That's a pretty poem. He obviously wrote it to cheer you up," she points out.
