Weekend in Chicago

Feb 05, 2008 12:00

So I meant to post something yesterday, but I've actually been really busy with work. Things are going well, just can't wait to get my commission paid which won't happen until March, so until then I'm living on my base salary :(

Anyway, the weekend in Chicago was great. We left Madison around 2 on Friday and so that gave me a chance to stop at a client when we got into the city. Kirk was so cute, he was just blown away by the skyscrapers and big city feel. It is a great area down on the Mag mile/river north.  The hotel wasn't everything I hoped... I've stayed there before and have always been happy, but I paid for a better room, ones that were recently refurbished, and I was just expecting more.
But Friday night we went to Volare for our anniversary dinner, it was fantastic. I asked all around for suggestions, but when it came down to it, Kirk and I just REALLY like Italian, I don't care if you say its not as "fancy" as french cuisine... I've had it, and its just not for me. Give me some well made italian any day. They make all of their noodles in house, so I had ricotta filled ravioli with a vodka sauce, it was amazing! Kirk had gnocchi and bolognase, also great. So we were totally stuffed, and then made our way to boystown.
We were a little dissapointed in the bars/clubs both nights... Friday at one place was lube wrestling which is something I've always wanted to see, but it wasn't overly great... we tried to find other places, but nothing was really going on.
Saturday we shopped up and down Michigan and found some amazing deals at Express.  Then had a late lunch at Bandera, Kirk wasn't impressed, but I always like the atmosphere there, and we were next to the window, so you can look down on the shoppers in the street and people watch.  We then headed up to boystown for some late afternoon snooping and shopping. Just looked around.
We ate at big bowl and we both love it, and then saw Wicked. I just saw it in May, but it was amazing, its just such a great show that you can see over and over. So I'm glad it was good, I was a little dissapointed in the seats, I paid an assload for middle dress circle, and here the upper balcony restricted the view of the top of the stage... really pissed me off.
We went out sat night, and didn't find much again, so came home by 12:30 or so.  Went shopping again on Sunday in Schaumburg, found some stuff at Ikea, which took 2 hours! but there's just so much to see! and then we got stuck in a bad snow storm around Rockford on the way home.

But over all, it was a great weekend, and we really had a lot of fun. It was SO nice to have that much time ALONE together, no family around to interrupt, just US! :)
