Slow and Steady wins (or finishes) the race

Tuesday night My husband and I went for a run aiming at the 30 min mark. being a has-been avid cyclist I considered 30 min. to be a breeze. I learned however that a half hour of high impact is quite different from the 2 or 3 hour rides I was used to. I found it to be more like a wheeze. I figured out that a run of that length was not going to happen and rather than give up I thought I'd do windsprints instead. I did a mix of walk/run/jog/power walk for the entire 30min. The next day one of my runner friends explained that my pace was too high. finding a good pace means one you can keep for the entire duration of the run. I also learned that protein a little bit before a run is the best fuel possible. it makes you into an animal.

I am attacking this from 2 main angles: Mechanics and Body Image.

Mechanics: this is the technical aspect calorie counting, exercise regimen, technical results, measurements, weight graph, etc. My anatomical heart.

Body Image: this is where I discuss how my life change is affecting my attitude, how my attitude is affecting my habits, as well as how I feel during the different stages of this journey. My spiritual heart.

Things I've learned:

#1 set a slow and steady pace

#2 protein is a runner's acomplice

#3 finishing what you start feels good.
