Its sad when even GLEE makes fun of you

Okay, I'll admit it, I live and teach in Memphis, TN, the city where 90 girls have given birth or are pregnant at a local high school (actually I;ll admit even more I teach in the same region as the high school). This past week we hit a new low when the Fox series Glee even made fun of us.

Here's a piece of the story...

In the popular Fox television show about a high-school glee club, Gwyneth Paltrow, playing substitute teacher Holly Holiday, made a reference to a recent media frenzy about a pregnancy epidemic at Frayser High.
"I just read in the newspaper that 90 high school girls in a Memphis school district got pregnant within three months. I mean, it is Tennessee, but still!" said Paltrow's character, subbing as a sex-ed teacher.

You can read the rest of the article here.

Okay, we've been hit by the Today Show, Politically Incorrect with Bill Mahr, and Conan O'Brien but what they aren't reporting is that this school is actually an alternative venue for girls to go to after they become pregnant. Then of course I grew up less then two blocks from the high school and incidents such as that isn't really anything new to the area. It was better before all of the factories closed and the standard of living was much higher.
