The Spiral Staircase

Recently I met a gal online, hit it off pretty well via email, but didn't do very well in real life. A fairly pedestrian experience, except for the fact that my brain had created lots of future scenarios; events which might take place in the next few weeks, months or years. One could call this daydreaming, but I prefer the image of a Spiral Staircase (which I read about in Cory Doctorow's "Little Brother"). Often, one walks down the staircase after failing a social situation and consider all the "What ifs?" ("Man, if I had only said ...")
This is the most common use of the Spiral Staircase.

But I propose that we can also walk up the Spiral Staircase. Why not? Stairs work both ways, right? I spent a few weeks building new stairs, only to find out I was building them out of air. The last few days I've been walking down the stairs, thinking of what I should've done or not done. I think I've reached the bottom of my staircase, because I'm excited to try and meet someone else.
