surf's up

i am: procrastinating
listening to: the a/c cranking
drinking: tropical-mango gatorade

i'm one page away from finishing up the third big section of my redesign and have thusly paused in order to avoid moving forward to the fourth and final big section. i pause and avoid because i haven't yet decided how much of the fourth and final section i'll be keeping. and so i surf.

scrabulous: play email scrabble and solitaire scrabble against robots without registering, or register to join a table in progress or to set up your own and play live. much better than the place where i've been playing for the past three years.

children's library a virtual library of children's books (go figure) categorized by age, genre, interest and even cover color. (!!!) so many old books with wonderful illustrations. many are in the public domain, and though the site states that the books aren't there for the purpose of people downloading them, they are in the public domain, so ummm ... yeah, moving on.

speaking of public domain, i found a treasure trove of art at wikimedia commons. i've been enjoying browsing through the illuminations, botanical illustrations and 10,000 paintings at the yorck project.

test and/or improve your vocabulary and donate food at the same time. free rice will donate 10 grains of rice through the united nations for each correct definition you select from a choice of four. if you get it right, you get a harder word; if wrong, you get an easier word. warning: addictive, but yeah, it's for a good cause.

i can't attest to the claim that you can find any book you're looking for, but the searchlores page entitled "how to find any text, any book, any journal or any poem" definitely has some links i'd never seen before, including the foxit pdf reader, which i've found to be many times faster than adobe.

and because an extended surf session always includes a visit to youtube, this:

two more days for this front to clear the coast, and fall may actually be here to stay. it's about time.

today's reading: i've moved on to royal assassin, the second book in robin hobb's farseer trilogy. i really need to find a way to make myself stop and try to get into umberto eco's the name of the rose which has been sitting on my bedside table for three weeks with only the first eight pages read.

videos, links
