On Sim Birthdays

So, Dina and Nina are fraternal (sororital?) twins, yet they have different Zodiac signs. Fortunately, Scorpio and Sagittarius are consecutive (traditionally, though Ophiuchus completely screws that up) so you could explain this as them being born on the cusp. My original thought was that Nina was born before midnight November 23, and Dina was born ( Read more... )

Ooh. Sims logic. You can drive yourself nuts trying to figure it out. At least it somewhat makes sense for Nina and Dina the way you've worked it out.

This is the way I think of sim twins. Sims time clearly works differently from out own. They go through college in 3-4 sim days for crying out loud! :D So when "twins" are born, it's probably just representative of kids being born at closer times to one another. After all, the occurence of twins also happens way too much in sims lives in comparison to real life. :D

So, yeah. That's the way I think of it at least, lol.

Yeah, it seems like Sim days can represent days, months, and years depending on what's going on.

Wow that is odd. They're twins, but they're different signs? It happens, I'm sure, but goodness. You think that they would be a little more on key.

In any case, I like the sign for Dina it definitely fits her. :D

Well, at least this can sort of be handwaved as a cusp thing. Lola and Chloe must have been born four months apart according to their signs. At least the Pleasants, Larsons, and Cordials do have matching signs, but that just makes it weirder that so many of them are off.

Gosh, you really dig deep into the nonlogical simsworld! I'm actually quite impressed by what you manage to conclude. And it's also embarrassingly interesting, really shows how much a sims-geek you are if you find it intriguing or not. ^^

Sim zodiac signs have absolutely nothing to do with when they're born, though. They're directly tied to the personality points, so Nina and Dina's signs are different simply because their personalities are (very) different.

A bigger mystery is the pets' zodiac signs, where kittens or puppies born with the exact same personalities can end up having different zodiacs. Some kind of oversight when they coded the pets, probably (which really are just a different type of sim).

I find it easier to completely ignore the zodiac signs. ;)

Except that Dina is a Sagittarius with the points of a Libra, and Nina is a Scorpio with the points of a Virgo. If you type their points into CAS that's what their signs will set to, so for some reason the creators decided to mismatch them.

Odd. That could be due to the base game 'hoods being made before the game was finished. Perhaps they changed what personality points match up with which zodiac signs after creating the twins. I wonder if there's other mismatched premades like that... They could also have changed their personality points after setting the zodiac signs with whatever 'hood editing tools they've got. I don't think changing personality points or zodiac signs in SimPE affects the other.

It must have been the latter, because the TS2 personality/zodiac are the same as they were in TS1, and it's easy to mismatch them with SimPe or cheats. Also, personality and zodiac signs effect chemistry separately, which is really weird in Dina's case, because Sagi is repulsed by Libra, yet Sims are attracted to similar personalities. There are quite a few mismatched premades, according to the wiki.
