Well, I guess all of us are sick, were sick recently, or will be sick soon. It's that time of year, I guess, when there's always 3 or four absences at the Abbey each day. In addition, there's always one or two occasions when an extra fella will leave at lunch. It happens, it's that time of year.
Today, I was one of those folks, and from the looks of things, I wasn't the only one. A bug's floating around, but, me being the tired, frustrated senior that I am, I suspect that many are merely taking "mental health days." I don't blame them. Hell, I just took a sick day, and I now need a mental health day to recover.
See, for some weird reason, the second semester workload seems to be worse than that of first semester. Which doesn't make sense. I mean, picture us, 30 some-odd seniors, many of whom are already into their top choice colleges, actually having to work in the one semester where we deserve a break. This final stretch of high school should be a time for partying and relaxation, but instead, it is a time of partying and falling behind in several subjects.
Well, ranting won't get me anywhere. In other news, I'm 13 reviews away from joining the TomatoMeter AND I just got hired for a paid reviewing gig with a webzine. It's not much, but it's something. That'll keep me busy.
Stone Ridge rehersals are going well. I've only been to three (I'm missing one today), and while we haven't got much done in terms of the actual show (a ludicrous musical called "Dear World"), the SR girls are a helluva lotta fun, and even when we aren't onstage (which is often), there's never a dull moment. Almost makes up for the fact that it's an hour drive home for me at rush hour.
Oh, and speaking of theater, this weekend is the St. Anselm's production of Moliere's "The Imaginary Invalid," starring Abbey seniors Joe Williams and Jeff Tardiff, with a special appearance by none other than Philip Johnson. So, come out and see them - it'll be a fantastic show. I'm not sure about the prices, but the times are Friday and Saturday @ 8 and Sunday @ 2 (or 2:30...uh..I'll get back to you...).
Movies look good this weekend - Fox's "Robots," the Bruce Willis thriller "Hostage" and the Oscar nominated German film "Downfall," about the twilight years of Hitler's life. Of course, because I'm semi-grounded, I didn't get to see any of them at early screeners. Grrr. Still, they should make my weekend interesting.
And with that, I bid you good night.
