The weather outside is frightful . . .

We're getting a lot of snow today in Toronto.

Although the actual snow we are expected to receive is not that unusual in the context of a Canadian winter, and certainly pales in comparison to some of the snowfalls we had last year, we are expecting a succession of snowstorms over the next week which are expected to royally screw around with a lot of people's holiday travelling plans.

Environment Canada sent around a media release yesterday or the day before calling it "Snow-mageddon". It isn't really. A sheepish Environment Canada official was being interviewed this morning on CBC Radio One, and basically said that the "Snow-megeddon" reference was just a well-intentioned attempt at levity by some "punchy" officials who were releasing a media statement late at night. But the media really picked up on the phrase, and now everyone is talking about the so-called "Snow-mageddon".

Having said all that, the view outside my office window is clearly frightening. There is so much blowing snow that it looks like the north pole. It's close to a total white-out effect. I can barely see some of the other office towers, and I can't see either the CN Tower or Lake Ontario at all.

The drive home will be trying, to say the least.
