Operation

As I got back from Poland I'd called my maternal grandmother. She is not well. Speaking to her over the phone on Thursday made me realize that I have never heard her so weak. She's been admitted to the local hospital with a severe stomach pain.

Today dad called me to let me know that she's been taken in for a colon surgery. She has not been well recently, very weak, and as we spoke over the phone she said: I have been very patient but I just don't think I can take this pain anymore.

Suffice to say she was not able to talk for very long. I realize there may not be much time left. It all reaches a point where you should really pray for a good death because the physical state is only on the downward curve.

She's been a very hardworking and dilligent woman all her life, working in the bank, going out of her way to do others favors, and on top of that had the whole household to run. Many a time she'd mention to me how hard it's been to be gradually less and less capable, even with the simple things.

I guess the worst way to go is to gradually fade away like that, bit by bit, having your ability taken away and being reduced to rely on everybody else. Especially when you've been as active as she's been her whole life.

I really hope for the best. I would want her to be around and be in good health but I know her health is not improving and being here any longer is only inflicting more pain on her.

EDIT: I have news that the surgery went well and she is now recovering.

bad news
