Today's Dawson's Creek life lesson:
Make your weaknesses your strengths. Granted, this is not a bad thing to learn...and can be quite good even. However, today's example on D-Creek was not that believable. Of course this philosophy was applied to a football team during an actual game. Our hometown (winless) heroes tried to disguise or confuse the other team by wearing makeup??? Because the other team knew that by stopping the "gay" kid they could win the game. Umm, the opposing team knew who the top receiver was (Jack), I mean they had spent 30 minutes tackling him already! . . . and yet he still made all the catches?!!? What happened to all those plays? Hmm...that's funny - when you make catches - you tend to gain yards. But granted, it's possible that limiting Jack did keep the team scoreless in the first half. But c'mon people . . . the team - now disguised - is going to be able to make the plays to score when they couldn't earlier??? WTF? Okay, the guys protecting the QB - who don't move by the way - have to wear makeup...because they could be mistaken as wide receivers? The use of mud to cover the numbers was actually more clever than anything else.
Perhaps they should pass on this secret to winning to the Miami Dolphins or San Fransisco 49ers . . .
Anyhow, the example wasn't lost. It did remind me of someone I admired growing up. I never really liked basketball, but it was hard not to pay attention when the Celtics won a lot during the early 80's. And Larry Bird became someone I respected - a lot. It was because he knew his game had weaknesses (and he was one of the best players of all-time). And yet being as great as he was at many other facets of the game, it wasn't good enough for him. He worked and practiced more than anyone else on that team until his weaknesses were his strengths. I remember him specifically saying that to a reporter one day - even after he had won championships. I'll always remember that. Because no matter what I accomplish; I'll never stop working hard at becoming better. I know I have weaknesses and I won't be satisfied until - well who knows.
Okay, enough......back to D-Creek. So Jen has decided that she doesn't want to be a cheer-tator any longer. Gee, I can't imagine why this is...But, she still has enough in her to kiss a freshman - football QB no less - on the mouth.....for non other than charity towards homeless orphans. As Charlie Brown would say - "Good Grief". I mean, this is the girl that only a few episodes ago was drunk in a bedroom with two guys...but now she can only do things that are for a worthy cause. Don't get me wrong; I'm glad to see her turning a new leaf. But has she become staunch and devout in her own new dogma...or is she just waiting for the next guy to come around? Another thing....why is Jack eating out of the ice cream container right in front of Grams - and she doesn't say anything??
Andy continues to disappoint me every episode. The only things that could make her more fake than she is; are implants, lipo suction, and botox...and maybe a hair weave. And her inability to see people for who they are...which is something I'm really coming to respect in Joey. She sees her (former) boss as he really is - a dickhead. And she will let people know where they stand and how she feels - even when it's hard to and maybe not the popular thing to do as well. I admire people that can be honest and not pretend to like someone just so they can be social.
Pacey owns a boat now. And has gone two episodes without having to yell at someone or stand up for his rights. I can see fun episodes coming up on the water.....
Dawson. Dawson is actually looking to his father to tell him what's right and what's wrong. Interesting switch today. And the Evil one made another appearance today. Eve Whitmore or whatever she called herself returned to do a little breaking and entering. Which in turn compelled Dawson to do a little reconnaissance work of his own. He didn't go about it that bad, but she was clearly on to him following her around. And can you imagine the police being only one step behind...oh, so close. Now are we supposed to really believe that the boat Eve was staying on belonged to a retired couple in their 80's. C'mon, even if they took tranquilizers and were strapped down inside the boat - they wouldn't get in that monster. All-in-all, just another example that people can't be trusted.
