"Um," is Jeremy's response, and Evan stares at him. It's the first time Jeremy's spoken in a few days, he thinks, or at least the first time Evan's noticed. He'd kind of forgotten Jeremy was with them. "Did you say--"
"He's right." Everyone turns to look at Tanith. She's pushing herself stiffly up off of Ben's shoulder, but she sounds certain. "We have to do something. We're really high up, and these storms last a long time in the mountains, right?" Everyone looks blank, so she just insists, "We have to do something."
It's true, and they all know it, but no one rushes get started.
Evan makes a decision.

Evan works his way through the snow to where the smaller bits of metal are scattered near the cliff face and yanks a chunk with a jagged edge out of the icy crust. The drift that marks Scott's body is now nearly obscured by the blizzard, so it takes him longer to find Scott and dig out one of his legs than any other part of this operation. His make-shift saw slices easily through the crunchy fabric of his pants, but after that it's not so easy.
After a few minutes, Jeff joins him. His grin looks curious, and he watches as Evan makes jagged cuts through an exposed bit of leg so frozen it feels like he's sawing an ice cube. "How do you know this stuff?"
Evan stops sawing and grimaces in a vaguely affronted way. "I read."
Jeff blinks at him, or at least Evan thinks he does. The fur of his hood mostly covers his eyes. "You read about butchering humans."
Evan huffs because that really should have sounded like more of a question, and goes back to cutting. "No. Anatomy and stuff. You eat the muscle in animals, and humans are just big animals."
What? It totally makes sense.
Jeff inches away from Evan anyway, but he doesn't leave.

The fire is small, settled in a dug-out spot on the lee side of the plane, as much out of the wind as possible. Chunks of metal plating make a little teepee over it and two little melted plastic bits prop up a bent metal dowel through the middle. They'd been worried about not having enough things to burn, but as it turned out a lot of items from the cabin and luggage are flammable enough and the herbal oils Tanith uses for her dry skin are really good starter fluid.
It occurs to Evan that this may be the most surreal moment of his entire life, and he's had some moments; his whole strange childhood as a figure skater, winning a gold medal, Dancing With the Stars. Those are all in his past. Right now Olympic Gold Medalist Evan Lysacek from Naperville, Illinois is sitting under the wing of a wrecked airplane, in a blizzard, in the middle of the Canadian Rockies, roasting a chunk of Scott Hamilton's thigh for dinner.
He prods the fire a little, and adds a wad of red cotton shirt scraps to keep it going.
Yeah, this is happening.
He lets it.
