well again it's taken me awhile to write but it's a good sign that i'm having a lot of fun.

last friday was my last night in tepoztlan... my day was lovely involving a climb up the mountain with my teacher Alberto and some general shopping and quality time with my kitten and Liliana. on saturday i left midday... as soon as i got to Cuernavaca i felt like an idiot for leaving tepoztlan. i HATE the cities here, which is interesting because in the US i generally prefer city to country. i was in cuernavaca to meet up with a contact, Pepe, but i couldn't get ahold of him. so i ended up wandering the city with a very heavy backpack feeling grumpy and annoyed at all the Cortés stuff.

finally around 6 i got ahold of pepe and met up with him and two of his friends. they are some really amazing, sweet and cordial punk kids. they took me to a really bad punk show outside of the city. they recently started a distro, so they were at the show to sell patches, shirts, cds, etc. it was, as always, humbling and rejuvenating to witness the punk scene in another country... a punk scene too small for people to feel jaded.. or to be picky about who's in and who's out. everyone was there and everyone danced and was so stoked about the distro. it's not the criticism of the punk scene is unfounded.. it's just good to remember that it's worth fighting for and that it is still a wonderfully unifying force.

on sunday i went with pepe and co. to the little stall they have in the city's mercado. they sat there 8 hours working, selling their stuff to passersby. it was pretty impressive. i helped and also wandered around and read some.

on monday we left for acapulco. i was originally going to meet a friend from the states there but she couldn't make it, so i invited pepe. it was a short busride and we got off into the steamy, hot ugliness of the city. but it didn'tmatter because my lovely aunt carma had helped us get a space in a beautiful villa on the edge of the city, overlooking the bay. i don't think pepe or i have ever been anywhere this nice. it's totally relaxing.

yesterday we hung out on the beach in acapulco. it's off-season for tourists so it's been very relaxing.today we took a trip to pie de la cuesta, just north of the city, where we boat-toured around a huge laguna they have there, swam and ate yummy food. thye shot Rambo in this laguna and i kept remembering that silly picture of ian with the knife in his mouth from my childhood.

i'm here till friday and then it's heading up north to meet a friend on another beach. hasta luego..
