I few months back I found out that when people were asking the Boy what I was up too he was telling them I was writing slash, even going so far as to send his RL friends (and mine) links to my stuff on SSA. I was aghast, horrified, vaguely traumatized. I tried to tell him that we didn't talk about that with people offline.

The Boy being as practical as he always is pointed out that I was out of closet on everything else, I might as well be on this too.

But I tell ya, it was easier to introduce my girlfriend to my grandmother than it was to tell friends or coworkers that I spend all my spare time writing angsty fiction about the incredibly true adventures of two boys in love.

It was quite gutsy of you to come out like that. I'm proud of you.

Yeah, what is up with that? There's this weird heirarchy - lesbianism is more accepted than queer men, which is more accepted than bisexuals, which is less accepted than porn, which is more accepted than slash. People take it as a given that men watch porn and women read romance novels, and that most men are turned on by two women together, but god forbid a woman watches porn or either sex likes the idea of two men together.

Thanks for your comments, Jacyn. Hope your day is better too.

Ooh, you should write a whole post on that heirarchy! So interesting and so true. Speaking as a porn loving bisexual woman I'm at the bottom of that totem pole! It might be fun to explore the social instituions which allow that hierarchy to keep existing. Or maybe I've just had too much coffee. :)

What, are you a psych (or sociology or anthro) major too?

Heee! Social Antropology was my first major! Although I changed twice before I finished school, I still find it fascinating.

you mentioned the whole hierarchy of sexual oppression/acceptance once to me before, and i just wanted to comment on that. (i don't usually wax philosophical-- i'm sorry ( ... )

i don't usually wax philosophical-- i'm sorry!

Don't apologize... I do it all the time!

i just think that saying that either gays or lesbains are more tolerated is an extremely dangerous statement.

Your point. I think I meant more to say that lesbians are "less unliked" as opposed to "more liked", if that makes any sense. Yeah, there's oppression and discrimination everywhere, but I've seen this kind of hierarchy in my own interactions with others. It could be different elsewhere... who knows?
