Amelia: For the record 1. This is most emphatically not about ice time. Serious and passionate complaints were submitted by previous captains and stars who had plenty of ice-time and whose issues mirrored those of individuals who were not so fortunate, thus debunking the “ice time” myth. Moreover, your belief that parents would muster a fight of this nature and/or respected school leaders make a decision based on playing time? Think about that? Do you really believe that? They would have been laughed out of the room in the first complaint. 2. It was not a “minority” - a virtual majority of returning players and/or parents were in favor of this action. Irregardless of quantity, the nature of the individual issues alone were substantial enough on their own merit to require a change of some nature. 3. Your claim that this is ruined for future members of this team presumes some “future ball” vision others of us don’t possess. The future will be different. Hopefully, it will be better. Prejudging the future as you did does not make your opinion any more credible, quite the contrary. Moreover, it does not help make the future any more positive. 4. This is about an athletic director who publicly promised hundreds of parents that their kids would be led by a certain positive coaching philosophy. The AD, principal, human resources dept, superintendent and board then decided that Coach Fox’s philosophy and method were contrary to the philosophy of the school. This philosophy was not determined or advocated by the parents. The philosophy came first. Coach Fox decided he was not going to comport. He chose to close doors to communication and change. He is accountable to the parents and the school board. They advocated a philosophy he didn’t like. 5. How many state championships have you won? The answer is 100 percent irrelevant and the fact that this has undue importance is reflective of the poor coaching you have received. First of all, Bill Fox did not earn the state championships, you did. The girls had the talent coming in. Fundamentally, Bill Fox failed to develop that talent. You girls would have won with Dr. Lew coaching. Even if, for the sake of argument, your fundamentals improved under Coach Fox, his coaching philosophy is not required to achieve those results. You could have achieved the same results with a coaching philosophy that stressed individual and team development as players and people. The two coaches in the NBA finals are prime examples of “winners” who totally contradict Bill Fox’s methodology. Does “it work” to achieve a state championship? Maybe. But that is the wrong question.continued
We can argue as much as you want whether it is or isnt about ice time, but even the so called 'real' arguement, that players were 'verbally hurt' by him is still weak in itself. This is a varsity sport. Toughen up or go home.
There is NOT a virtual majority of returning players against coach Fox. I have no idea where you get that from. I was with six girls who were practically in tears discussing this with Larry Lobert and the AD yesterday, not including others that would play next year and a few more that would return. Plus, yesterday we found out some comments were made for a person, without her knowledge, against coach Fox when in actuallity she was all for him. The party who is trying to get him firing is struggling for reasons, up to the point where things are being MADE UP.
This 'philosophy of the school' nonsense is totally false. If this was the football team or another boys sport this ridiculous witchhunt would have been over before it started. Stop trying to make up reasons you want Fox fired. You and I both know that this is whole thing stemmed out of a personal beef with the guy. If you can't be honest with me at least be honest with yourself.
The state championships are not irrelevant. If we hadn't made it past the first round none of this would have happened. It's because some people didn't play in certain games. Once again though I won't continue to argue the so-called 'ice time myth'.
I'm assuming that now I'm responding to a parent or a past player when you refer to the team as 'you girls'. The team was pushed all season long through Fox and Dr.O. You can't win or have a good team without a good coach. Screw the NBA, look at the Redwings. Dave Louis doesn't have the same skills as a motivator as Scotty Bowman did. Did the whole team like Bowman? Probably not. Did they win the Stanley cup numerous times? You bet they did.
