I had an absolutely great time in Hawaii!!!
I left Saturday morning around 8:00, and the plane ride was 5 hours. We were going to the big island (Hawaii) for the first few days. I don't think we did too much the first day besides explore our hotel which was massive. It uses 7% of the island's total electricity!!! They had several pools (ones for those 18 and older which we used a lot because the other ones were more crowded), they had mini golf, a lagoon for snorkeling, a dolphin pool where you can swim with the dolphins and a tram that takes you from the lobby to your room. And there was artwork all over the place.
Sunday, we went to Mauna Kea (I'm not sure if that's how you spell it). It took 2 and a half hours to get there, and it's a 14,000 ft mountain. At the 9,000 ft level, you are required to stop and wait 30 minutes in order to accumulate to the altitude. Many people get altitude sickness (which includes lightheadedness, fainting, blacking out, feeling dizzy, having headaches, etc), sometimes cars don't even start up that high. Anyways, we made it up there just fine. And we looked around and it was absolutely beautiful. We were higher than the clouds!! It looked like Olympus where the gods live, or whatever their home is called. It was so cold up there so we all jogged back to the car after looking at everything and once we all got back in, we all felt sick. There's 40% less oxygen up there, so it's bad to exert yourself so we decided we would take it easier. We met up with the tour group and they took us to the looking tower. You had to go up two flights of stairs so we all did it very slowly, but once I reached the top, I felt so sick!!! I felt like I was going to pass out because I started seeing stars. And this is where I got my movie scene moment. Lol. A lady noticed I was having problems, and she helped me and she also just so happened to be a nurse. She sat me down and told me how to sit to feel better and then one of the tour guides brought out a tank of oxygen and a mask. And everyone stared at me during my ordeal. Lol. It was nice breathing pure oxygen though. Oh yea, and the family we were with on the tour was from Hillsboro, OR, pretty random huh?
Monday, we went to the volcano which was fun. We got to walk on cooled lava, and see where hot lava was entering the ocean. It was cool. After that, we went to a free zoo that they have and we got to see a white tiger. It's been awhile since I've seen one, I think they're beautiful. He was originially supposed to be in Las Vegas and be in one of their shows but they got too many so they donated it to the zoo. Then we met up with my mom's friends there and they showed us around the island for awhile.
Tuesday, we left for Oahu. I was so pleased with the place we were staying at. It was a condo. It had two bedrooms, two bath, a living room and dining room, a kitchen and a huge balcony. Our room number was 503, which was cool. We didn't do too much that day, we ate at the cheesecake factory for an early dinner and made it back in time for the season premiere of Dancing with the Stars. I like Mario Lopez. I tried to vote but my time zone was already done with their voting time. Stupid cell phone.
Wednesday, we hiked up diamond head which we did last time we were there. It's a short hike but it's tough, there's a point where you have to climb over 300 stairs!!! and it was so freaking hot!! but the view is worth it. That night we ate at Kobe Beef, the people there said we looked like natives.
Thursday, We went snorkeling in the bay for a hour or so. It was so much fun. It's cool to be able to be so close to fish and see so many. And then we went parasailing. You have to take a boat to the parasailing boat, and on the way, we saw two sea turtles swimming around, it was awesome. We got the extreme package where we got up to 600 ft, it was awesome. And then they play with you by dunking you into the ocean every once in awhile. Oh, and the guy who helped us was the same guy who helped us parasailing two years ago. That was cool, because he's really hot and has an amazingly sexy voice. Lol.
Friday, we went to the zoo which was so much fun. We got the native discount price because they thought we were natives and didn't bother to ask if we really were.
Saturday, At night, we went to a show called Society of Seven which is 7 guys who do a bunch of covers and impressions. It's an amusing show. We saw it last time and loved it. This time was just as great. They all did a mini impression of William Hung which was amusing.
Sunday, we went to their sealife place. It was pretty cool. We got to watch a Dolphin show and a Sea Lion show. We also got to feed the sea turtles and touch baby ones (which were smaller than 3 inches!!!, they were so adorable). I bought a sea turtle stuffed animal because I like turtles a lot. After that, we went to the international marketplace and I bought some souvenirs for people and I bought some things for myself as well. We had Kobe Beef for dinner. And then called it a night with some card games.
Monday, we all woke up early and went to the beach one final time. It's so beautiful there, I wish our coast here was like their beaches so bad. I'm going to miss it so much. Our plane left at 1:30, but it left later. The ride back was over 5 hours, our flight left late, and we lose 3 hours coming back, so we didn't get here until after 10. My brother and I watched the season premiere of Amazing Race which aired sunday (we taped it), looks like it's going to be good.
