…for blogging awhile back about child models and for posting links to some child models’ myspace profiles that were not private at the time. i’m going to remove the post in order to get people to shut the hell up, but i’ll be happy to post their kind comments contributed below the cut for you all to enjoy. my opinion is my opinion, and if you think i’m a hypocrite, well, frankly, my dears, i don’t really give a shit. furthermore, i’d like to thank you all for the linkage, guys! way to boost my page rank. *thumbs up*
AN OPEN LETTER TO THE ANGRY FOLKS: let me first make it clear that i was NOT paid for that entry (as someone suggested), and that i did not insult any child. i personally feel sorry for these children because i don’t wish for them to be exploited by their parents (i know you’re seething by now, so let me finish), HOWEVER, since you all have made it perfectly clear for me and all 8 of my regular readers that this is NOT what you are doing by creating individual myspace pages for your children, then so be it. you’re not exploiting your kids; your not a bunch of “stage moms”…if that’s what you all say, then, well, okay. i genuinely hope your kids are happy.
and to the various remarks about my nieces, yes, i’ve posted pictures of them, but neither i nor my sister have created their own personal myspace pages to advertise their “services” for magazines, commercials, whatever (their parents don’t “offer” any of their kids’ “services” in the first place). let me get this straight here: the thing that bothered me the most about those pages was that i believe that their parents made the children their own personal myspace pages in order to show off their kid, and- dare i say it?- advertise their children’s faces. i personally believe that half these kids are too young to make a serious decision for themselves such as this career path. BUT it’s YOUR child and it’s YOUR right to do that for your kid, just as this is MY blog and MY right to post MY opinion on it.
and now for the really serious stuff: i DO apologize that if someone out there were to google “pedophile,” they would have found, after surfing through MANY pages of their search results, a link to your child’s myspace page on my blog. for that, i admit that i made a careless mistake and i am honestly sorry. i do not want and never meant for any child to be a target of child predators. you parents keep pressing, though, that your child’s page is private, and this will prevent potential predators from having access to your children’s photos and information. because i was able to view your child’s page ages ago when i wrote that entry, chances are it was not private at the time. i would have had no access to it otherwise. however, a head’s up for you all: myspace is not entirely safe. not only is it loaded with security flaws and bugs, but i’m sure you all know that just because a clean “background check” is returned on a person who seeks to be your myspace friend does not mean that they will not harm your child. furthermore, you seriously might want to spend more of your time googling your own kids…i’m sure i’m not the only blogger on the entire internet who has found themselves rather disgusted with such myspace pages. and i’m not being a smartass about that; i’m being 100% serious.

How can you possibly assume you know anything about these people? There are lots of child models…that enjoy modeling and acting!! Not all children are pushed into doing things they don’t want to do. Most parents put the money straight into Savings Accounts for College. If the kids did not like modeling/acting it would show in their photos. Did your parents push you into whatever career that you chose? Or are you just jealous because you wanted to be in the industry and were not allowed OR couldn’t make it? This is rediculous for you to post something bashing people that you know nothing about!! These families are stand up families!! You should be sued for defamation of character!!!

Though I can understand why you think that having photos of your child promoting their modeling and acting is bad. But entertain the thought that our children are models. Their photos are in magazines, online clothing sites, look books and toy boxes. If a pedophile is going to use an image of a model/actor child he will find a way, since their photos are everywhere! You stated:

But many reputable agencies promote their children online as well, are they wrong for doing so? The children you speak of in your blog have loving parents and enjoy having their photo taken. Hello there. Someone came across this “blog” of yours and sent it to me and I find it extremely humorous that someone can presume to know everything about something they know nothing about. First of all, I have no idea how you were even able to view our page since it is private. Secondly, myspace is being used as a networking tool. From myspace, my child has gotten roles on a TV Show, a film, and was able to donate over 700 Care Bears to Orlando’s Children’s Hospital. This is something my child CHOOSES to do, it is a fun way for my child and I to do something together. He enjoys it and I help him along. We do a lot of “free things” and I have no intentions of “lining my pockets” with his earnings. Anything he makes goes into his college fund. EVERY child you see on television or on billboards across America is being promoted. I am PROUD of my son for his accomplishments and for being the child he is. Maybe you should focus more on your weight loss than on what I’m doing. If you don’t agree with it, that’s fine, but slandering my name (and his) shamelessly is ridiculous. Don’t you have better things to do with your time? Maybe if you spent as much time at the gym or at Weight Watchers Meetings, you could feel better about yourself and maybe spend less time writing pointless, factless blogs about things you know nothing about. And as far as cookies go, maybe if someone had been giving you less, you wouldn’t have the problems you have today. I have a nine yearold and she loves acting/modeling she has wanted to do it since she was three I just waited. Others that have the means don’t have to wait. If you had kids you would know that they are strong little people that let you know at a young ages what they want to do and don’t.

Here’s a news flash… Alanis, one of your favorites, started out as a child actor… A Christmas Story, another favorite, has a lead character child actor. Do you think someone picked him off the street and gave him a movie role? You claim to dislike mean/arrogant/rude/ignorant people. This brings me back to disliking yourself. I also noticed that you dislike school, which is probably why you are so uneducated. Although some of what you write in your “A Pedophile’s Dream” blog may be accurate, I don’t think that making assumptions concerning the children or parents is called for. Yes, your opinion is your opinion, but people need to realize that many of the good things in the world can also be bad. MySpace, and the Internet for that matter, is a networking site. I know “child model Alex” and his mother and she does NOT have Alex’s information on MySpace for any other reason than to network with other people and parents in the same business. She does not have his information out there for pedophiles to view, but she cannot stop that either. I know for a fact that she doesn’t add people to Alex’s friends list without first checking out their MySpace page and doing some background checking.
Many parents of child actors/models think it’s important to build up their friends list by accepting anyone and everyone…even 52 year old men from who knows where who are not even remotely involved in the entertainment business. Why do they want to be a childs friend on MySpace? Who knows…it could be a variety of reasons, but either way, they get added in order to build up the friends number. Alex’s mother does NOT operate this way.
I hope that you will consider all sides of an issue. Alex’s page is ran by his mother, and you make reference to the “tons of links” to other child actor/model profiles, but again…there is nothing intended by that except the networking use of MySpace.

My dearest Catie. Blogging is fun, huh? Especially when you rant about things that you know nothing about. The parents on myspace (who have model children with their own space) ARE trying to promote their children. Yes, modeling is a difficult business, and yes, our kids are gorgeous. But, NO, we are not trying to profit off of them. It is something that we do to help our children in the future. And, by that, I mean learning patience, cooperation, determination, and so forth. We are also not trying to “promote our kid in any way possible to try and get some cash.” College is expensive, and anything that my son earns goes into HIS savings account for HIS future. Our myspace pages are just a fun way to get to know other parents who have children in the business and to share stories and advice. And, almost all of the profiles are set to private. So, all of those pedophiles that are supposedly whacking off to my son’s pictures, do not exist, b/c they can’t be accessed. Thanks for trying to be concerned though, but next time you should try and do something more productive with your time.
