I never knew I had a green thumb until I got completely obsessed with carnivorous plants and read anything I could about them.

Sadly, it doesn't extend to my orchid. It looks terrible and I can't get it to bloom :[ I've tried reading a lot about orchid care, too, but there's too much conflicting information.

From what I learned at the garden centre I worked in, orchids don't like direct sunlight and rather than being watered prefer to be 'misted'.

Good to know, haha, I've been doing the exact opposite. I'll move it farther from the window and mist it instead of soaking the soil once a week.

That's funny that your sundews did so well. Mine turned to mush almost immediately - I think I had them outside in bright sun - probably should have given them a slightly less light.

I gave my sundews as much sunlight as they could possibly get & they loved it! Er, perhaps Frisco sunlight is a wee bit stronger than England sunlight then? :/

Hmmmm I don't think that's the case. I just don't know...

they are awesome! i love the hand pot.

and about orchids - i think it really depends on your location. my orchids did awesome in berkeley b/c they had a ton of natural sunlight coming from my windows (i also watered them every few days with a piece of ice so it would melt slowly). in san jose though, they would always die b/c either they would be in the dark or they would be way TOO hot ;/ so it might just be your apt isn't good for orchids. they are sensitive lol
