"Hi. Welcome to the SKA SHOW!"

Action Shot had a show at Club 156. They were, as so often happens, playing with three screamo/hardcore/just plain shitty bands who acted totally unprofessional (I know it's a local show and damn near inconsequential, but dammit, people acting stupid and whiny still has the power to annoy me). Oh, and one cool band, Autonomous Collective, who play like....hardcore jam music?? Hard to describe. Cool to listen to. Because it's a new school year, Club 156 has a new staff (it's a venue on the CU Boulder campus that is run by students) and whoever was running sound last night made me very happy. They probably sounded better than they've ever sounded in the club. Rock.

In the "good yet unexpected and kind of scary" category, I missed the first half of the show because I was talking on the phone to a friend of mine who's pregnant. Yes folks, sometimes contraception really does fail. What's crazy is that since she was on contraception, she was a) not getting her period and b) not watching for any signs, so she managed to get five months along without even noticing. Baby's due in December. They did a sonagram. They think it's a boy? All of a sudden she's on the prenatal vitamins she should have been on in April. It's like five months of pregnancy squeezed into one week. And I thought my week had been crazy.
