Books Read Since Honors Week
- His Majesty's Dragon, Naomi Novik
- Throne of Jade, Naomi Novik
- A Wild Sheep Chase, Haruki Murakami
- The Black Powder War, Naomi Novik
- Norwegian Wood, Haruki Murakami
- The Years of Rice and Salt, Kim Stanley Robinson

It's been lovely to have the time to read again. I've already gone on at length, though no particular intelligence, about by I love the Temeraire trilogy (recap: Napoleonic war fiction with DRAGONS), but I am happy to say that now I can consider myself an actual fan of Haruki Murakami, as opposed to a fan just of his one book Hard-Boiled Wonderland, or The End of the World. That first one remains my favorite, but A Wild Sheep Chase was quite charming and Norwegian Wood was satisfyingly bittersweet. Normally, I hate those kinds of melancholic "reminiscing over lost love" stories, but this one was funny, furtive, and thoroughly enjoyable. Despite, or because of, a protagonist I regularly wanted to smack upside the head.

The Years of Rice and Salt was good, and I enjoyed it, but I have this nagging little feeling in the back of my head that it spent a lot of time exoticizing cultures it was supposed to be familiarizing us with. It was enough to sour my enjoyment a little, anyway.

I'm supposed to be a bit more helpful with chores, so...
