My childhood is crumbling

Sep 08, 2007 19:27

One of my old neighbors, Sue Smith, passed away. That family was... wow. her husband Tom is one of my dad's best friends, and she was one of those people who was ALWAYS around growing up. Homemaker, mom... shit. This is really weird. It's not like she was a relative, but all the families on my block growing up always hung out together. It was like the backyards were tied together or something, and the idea of knocking was damned near insane... most of us kids just sort of wandered in and out of everyone's homes without worry. She'd been doing pretty poorly, but this is still a shock.

The worst part (at least on this end)? My folks are out of town.

Jesus. Next week's just getting more and more like old home week.

friends, death
