The A/C is broken. We figured it was something to do with the fan, being as how everything else would get going, and then right when the fan would normally kick in, you'd just hear this weird whirring noise coming from within the bowels of our HVAC unit. The gentleman from the repair service confirmed this, and went on to further explain that it was specifically the control unit that controlled the variability of the fan's speed. It was a very expensive piece of equipment. It's hot, so I told him, "Yes, please, dear God, please fix it."
He went to go get the part, and I realized that we are post-vacation, pre-paycheck, and completely unable to pay for it. Several phone calls with
the_lucky_nun, Tenants to Homeowners, and Cloud Heating & Cooling later, and we've come up with a plan: we write them a check, they hold it until Friday, and TTH will reimburse us for half the repairs from the maintenance fund into which we pay.
This had me all smiling and happy until the guy comes back, hooks up the control unit and... nothing. Seems that it is, in fact, the motor, which is $15 more than the control unit, but a part which requires being ordered. Hopefully, they can overnight it and get this fixed tomorrow. Otherwise... oh, God, who knows?
At this point in the week, there is a distinct possibility that it might not get here until Monday. I hope for tomorrow, can handle Friday, and Monday might result in a complete mental breakdown. Seriously, box fans can only do so much. My nerves are frazzled, it's too hot to cook, and I'm starving and mildly dehydrated, to say nothing of being unable to think straight enough to write or do much of anything.
