Well, evidently geek heaven is where I need to go whenever I'm feeling down. Hitting the movies on a Friday afternoon (or, really, any free afternoon) is a serious pick-me-up. Popcorn, soda, a good crowd... oh, and the fact that Star Trek exceeded my expectations on all levels didn't hurt.
I haven't enjoyed Star Trek like this since I was in high school. All of the casting is fantastic, and while there's a bit of impersonation going on in how the actors portray their characters, they still manage to inhabit them and make them their own. Honestly, Simon Pegg as Scotty was a delight, and John Cho as Sulu demonstrated he can do more than Harold & Kumar (even going so far as to erase from my mind that awful sitcom he was in with Eddie Kaye Thomas).
Eh, fuck it...
this Fresh Air story says everything I can and more. The only negative thing I can say about the film is that showing the trailer for Revenge of the Fallen before it pretty much made me wish for that movie immediately. As Deron said, "Now I don't even wanna see Star Trek - I want to see Transformers right now."
I am now pumped and primed for Terminator: Salvation, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, GI Joe, 9, Up, Inglorious Basterds, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and even Land of the Lost.
