For my move I had budgeted $400 for a deposit, $300 for the moving company and $600 (possibly $625-650) for monthly rent. Well, I viewed an apartment on Monday night that may be better than I expected. It has one con, but it isn't even a big one.
Cons:
- It's small. This isn't too big of a deal as I don't really have too much stuff, but it would mean 2 of my 3 largest items of furniture would not move with me (my HUGE dresser and the dining room table). This isn't a big deal as Brian asked to keep them, which means I don't need to move them or figure out a way to get rid of them. I will have to buy a new dining table, but I have my eye on the perfect one from Ikea.
Pros:
- Price - $575, includes heat, water & trash. Oh, first month is free, and the deposit is only $250.
- Has all the amenities I was looking for (dishwasher, A/C and a balcony).
- Location: Northeast (Marshall St NE & 26th Ave), and only 5-10 minutes from work (I could easily bike to work in warmer weather)! Also, right off the river, I know there is a great running/walking path across the river, as well as a park right next door.
- I found it on rent.com, so I will be getting a $100 gift card (to go towards a new dining room table).
Brian is going with me to view it again on Saturday the 12th so we can see it in the daylight. He is a little more critical and detail oriented than I am, so he will be able to find any big issues I may easily miss. If all goes well, I'll be putting my application in for it that day, as well. I also plan on exploring the neighborhood a little more then as well.
If I get it, as I wouldn't be paying rent for February, I'll be putting that month's rent towards apartment supplies. So there will be a bit of a shopping spree.
Fingers crossed!!
