Lo, it is written, I am thankful to all who helped pull off the
Cut and Paste Competition! How the hell we pulled it together with our budget...I am not sure, but it was a great time. We had almost 1000 people, got weird people to mingle over mixed media, and there were musicians mingling with graphic artists who were mingling with people from Adobe, Wacom, and Wired magazine. And when the show shut down the fun really began. I took video footage, pictures, and all of the artists' works, and booked it over to
Asphodel to start the after-party, where we rocked it until 5 a.m.
I got there around high noon (a.m.) and got wired in via ethernet, audio, and video. I was only outputting to 2 of the 10 screens, but each screen is about "10x"20 so I'm not complaining. Did I mention I got to audition some of my own songs in massive 16x4 surround?!? Holy shiat on a stick, that part of it was fun. Deep thanks goes out to Brian Gibbs and the rest of the crew there, thanks for letting us stay so late! And we got to introduce Naut to some Adobe doods, whenceupon Naut decided to whip out the full-blown surround video-and-audio demo of doooom. Shoulda heard his cover of Louie Louie, whoa.
And so check this wouldja: Whilst I was finishing setting up, one of the graphic artists named Alex asked if he could dj. I said all I had was my MacBook, but he had his iPod so I said "Sure go ahead, but if you suck I'm pulling you, just be creative dammit." And he had a great set, mostly electro stuff that I usually can't stand, but he was groovin so he stayed. At least until the other paid dj came out, and he had 2 cd decks and a mixer, but he cranked out some crazy techno that sounded more coked-out-drunk than actual fun. Two lessons: 1. It's not the tools, it's the person behind the tools. 2. Take a chance and hear something new or pay for the predictable. That's the lesson there, y'see, rudy.
Last week I woke up late for work one day, jumped in the shower, did the ol' morning routine and went to work. I ran into Tyler (my once roommate, co-worker, and bandmate, holy shit we didn't kill each other I guess that's cool) and I complained to him about my stoopid fuzzy-ass contact in my right eye. So I get to work, take out my contact, and the room still looks like it's filled with smoke, all fuzzy-like. So I proceed to leave work and go to my eye doctor to see wtf is goin' on...apparently my corneal tissue was slowly getting dehydrated, either from sleeping in contacts, too much wind or bad a.c., hairdryers (not likely) or sleeping with eyes partially open. So I got some eyedrops and medicine I take 3x daily, and that shiat went away, for now...oh but for how long?
But on a more positive note: Have I mentioned that I redisigned SK-HQ? We now have ( we being me and my multiple selves) have installed a new desk and console and rewired a full-blown 5.1 surround with genelec speakers and sub, digital video w/video and audio fx, and a mixer that seems to do every possible thing in the friggin universe. Expect a forecast of surround-vengance...I have sooo much to learn but godammit it's soooo much fun. So much more to talk about...movies, bands, weird-ass family,...must sleep, more later, cya.
