Who needs sleep?

Can someone remind again me why I do this to myself?

As of yesterday, it's hell week. To start it all off, I was up at 7am to pick up the rental truck from hell -- a 26' diesel stick shift with no first gear and broken suspension. The set was in the theater by 10am, spiked by 1pm, and the set rehearsal started at 4pm. In three hours of rehearsal, we only got through about 2/3 of the first act, the worst of the set changes admittedly, and in another 3 hours got to just about the same place with the rest of the tech (cue-to-cue). I crawled home just before midnight and was up before 6am as usual this morning.

To say that I'm ready to fall over is probably an understatement. Add to that my usual work week (fortunately only 40 hours these days) and I may not make it through tech week.

To add to the fun, while I have plenty of crew for most of the run of the show, I'm short handed all this week. I'm not sure which is worse -- trying to run tech rehearsals without enough people, or knowing that the majority of the crew running the scene shifts this week won't be the ones running them when the show opens on Friday.

I think it's time to lobby the theatre TD for 2 weeks of tech again. Trying to do a show this complex (225 light cues, 40 scenes, nearly 50 sound cues, and lots of quick-changes) with a single week of tech is just insane. And for those of you who don't know the theatre I spend most of my time in, the set for those 40 scenes has to be struck into our prop room and a 4' x 18' storage space every night!
