Jack was there, three feet away, broken and bleeding on the cold marble floor. Nothing stood between them but two stony guards, an impenetrable force field, and a word. One single word that would grant her access to her dying friend, and she didn’t know what it was.
“Can’t you see he’s dying? You have to let me see him!” Sam shouted frantically.
“Not without the password.” One of them said, as he’d said the past twenty times she tried to get in. Frustrated, Sam kicked the force field. It shimmered blue upon impact.
Jack’s response was a defeated smile.
