So I've been getting back into cooking again, and it has been wonderful. I've been inspired mostly by the cooler weather and the delicious delicious birthday cupcakes which I talked about so much my awesome boss gave me a cupcake recipe book for my birthday, and suggested that one of my KPIs should be to make at least half the recipes in the book by the end of the year. Can't say I have too many objections to that.
I started with the lemon and cream cheese ones, and they were DELICIOUS. Even if my oven is really much hotter than it should be, and turns itself off if I try to turn it down when it's been on for a while, necessitating re-lighting which inevitably ends in burning some part of my hand or arm. But I am willing to make such sacrifices for the cupcakey goodness.
I've also started going to the
Prahran Markets (home of the original birthday
cupcakes) and buying awesome things to make delicious delicious meals, such as:
- fresh linguine with king oyster mushrooms and taleggio
- tofu, bok choi, and shitake mushrooms with coconut rice
- fresh beetroot and horseradish ravioli with rocket and parmesan
- spinach and cheese pie (the first time I've used filo pastry - I've always been unreasonably nervous about it, but it turned out perfectly)
- a big pot of vegetable stock, so that I have several litres in the freezer whenever I need
- fresh parpadelle with broccoli, tomato, chili, lemon, avocado and parmesan
Tonight I'm planning potato rosti with more of those king oyster mushrooms, because damn they're goooooood!!! I also have some amazing fresh goats curd that I need to do something good with. *plots*
ETA: Oh yeah, and awesome bread & butter pudding. I love bread & butter pudding. Baked egg custard...*drools*
