Dear Amnesty International representative,
I would like to bring to your attention that your recent decision to withdraw Aleksey Navalny prisoner of conscience status puts him into an immediate danger.
As you probably know he was transferred few days ago from a Moscow prison into a colony near Vladimir city, which is notorious for its severe regime and restricted isolation from the outside world. Navalny is held by the people who tried to poison him with a nerve agent half a year ago. Only continuous attention from the international public opinion to his case gives Navalny a chance to survive his imprisonment.
Unfortunately your decision diminishes Navaly's chances to survive.
Publicly circulating details of the procedure behind this withdrawal makes the public opinion wonder whether AI exercise double standards. Some Islamic activists imprisoned in the middle east or elsewhere in the world declare much less peaceful intentions and much more nationalistic views than Navalny, but AI considers them prisoners of conscience.
I urge you to reconsider your decision, carry out a public verification of the activity, which led to it's acceptance and sincerely hope that this mistake will not damage the reputation of your organization and will not undermine the important work you carry out all around the world.
With best regards,
Boris Chorny
