Room 518 [Friday Night]

Not having classes on Friday means Gavin's spent most of the day lounging around his room, sprawled on his bed with a few books in arm's reach, a half written letter home on the nightstand and a bottle of water in his hand.

Right now, he's reading some random book on American warfare. It's actually got his attention.

Inara knocked. "Gavin? Are you busy?"

"Not a bit!" Gavin said. "It's open, come inside."

[ambassadorinara]

"It's the end of the week," she told him, in case he'd missed it.

[sixstandingby]

"And you found me," he said, throwing books off his bed to make room. "So, come inside and stay awhile."

[ambassadorinara]

Inara took a seat on the bed. "Anything interesting happen with the rest of your week?"

[sixstandingby]

"Not really," he said, shrugging. "Karal came by earlier and we talked a little before he fell asleep in here. I...I said I'd go back with him next time. To Valdemar."

[ambassadorinara]

Biting back the immediate refusal and sudden strong desire to lock him into her closet, she asked, "Will that be dangerous? How is Karal doing?"

"I think it'll be fine," he assured her, reaching for her hand. "And he's...it wasn't a good trip home last time. I can't tell you what he told me but it wasn't a good trip home."

[ambassadorinara]

"Poor Karal," she shook her head and took Gavin's hand with hers. "He's been having such a difficult time. I'm not sure he's sleeping."

"Well, he slept for awhile here," Gavin said, nodding at the extra bed. "And hopefully he sleeps tonight some more. How are you?"

[ambassadorinara]

"I'm fine. Quiet, now that classes are over for the week." She glanced over at the extra bed and tried not to worry. "I hope he'll be all right."

[sixstandingby]

"That's why I'm going back with him," Gavin told her. "To make sure he's stay okay. Don't worry."

[ambassadorinara]

"Now I'll just worry for both of you. What will you be doing?"

[sixstandingby]

"Just making sure he stays okay and sleeps," Gavin said. And using his blaster if the need arose. "I can't get too much into it but it's nothing like when I left to get Aravis back."

[ambassadorinara]

"You're sure?" Her hand tightened on his. "Is there anything I can do?"

[sixstandingby]

"You can stay here tonight," he said, ducking his head so he could run his nose against her cheek and around her ear.
