Surely the most fundamental tenet of sci-fi or any sort of fantasy writing is that you stick by the rules you've established?...It's such a shame that this is one of those episodes you really love whilst you're watching it and then end up going "huh? but??? hang on, noooo!" as soon as you start thinking about it.

Is it terrible that my first compulsion is to say, "Well, Rusty didn't seem to give a rat's ass about that (and your latter observation is pretty much the whole of S2 for me...)"? I know that doesn't excuse it, but I think Rusty did it a lot more and more blatantly (I didn't even notice this one until you mentioned it, and now I'm wondering if it's possible to handwave it by saying that River and the Doctor were looking directly at Amy so they could only see the Angel peripherally? But I would have to go back to see if that would even work, and yeah, it doesn't work with Liberty--who isn't even made of stone--at all, alas).

Well, okay, I did wonder how Liberty got away with wandering all over Manhattan and no one noticing THAT. I mean...yeah. She'd make the Cybermen seem positively stealthy by comparison.

I wonder if Moff's a bit confused by his own rules, since he changed them last year. I was surprised that we were back to the original MO, certainly. That said, they do remain something of a work of genius (and dammit, when I got to a friend's place tonight and saw the giant plastic gargoyle her husband put out in preparation for next month's festivities, I damn near screamed. Daleks and Cybers and whoever do NOT do that to me, broken rules or no).

What I do know for damn sure is that I am going to miss Rory and Amy something fierce, and was taken aback by the Doctor's distress over the possibility of any goodbye, even less permanent than what we got, and I damn near cried. And Rory deciding that it was worth dying to save everything and poking fun at how he always comes back, and Amy insisting on jumping with him, and...yeah. And I love that they actually filmed this one in New York rather than on a green screen somewhere in, I dunno, Ipswich or wherever they did the last one. And while it's annoying that there's a plot hole in the middle of it...it's one I can overlook because the rest of it was just so farking well done.
