Xian is beautiful! I love being able to walk around a town and not be stared at like a freak. I haven't had that yet in China. There are still stares, but there seem to be quite a few foreigners here so people are used to seeing us. We went to go see the Terracotta Warriors, which was really cool. Our tour guide surprised us with a small model of one of them at the end of the tour~ That was so nice. Yesterday my friend and I got lost in the Muslim district looking for a place to buy minutes for her phone. We couldn't find a place that could put minutes on a phone from Chongqing and we were told several times to buy a new sim card. We opted against this. Getting lost was really cool though. We found a fantastic little shop with ceramic pottery and beautiful Chinese paintings. I bought a tea pot and a small bowl as gifts.
There have been a couple of set backs though. We haven't really been able to use the internet past the first night, it is so slow that we are unable to even connect with skype at all. I see a different version on Deviantart and I am unable to delete or reply to most messages. There was also a setback in our trip planning. We had originally planned to head to Qingdao after Xian and stay with a good friend for a few days. The only problem is that China puts a stop on planning ahead. We couldn't buy our tickets from Xian to Qingdao in Chongqing. There was no way. So we had to wait until we were in Xian to even ask about them. By the time we got to Xian, all of the tickets, besides standing room (which is not an option in a Chinese train), were sold out for several weeks.
Unable to make it to Qingdao, we had no choice but to extend our stay at the hostel and wait for a train to Beijing. It is rather disappointing that we will not be able to go to Qingdao, I was really looking forward to it, but when you have no choice, you have no choice.
Another setback is my health. I don't know exactly what happened, but on our second morning in Xian, I got pretty violently ill. I have been sick for a day and a half plus I am exhibiting some cold symptoms. I am sick of being sick. There has not been a single full week in China where I have felt 100% healthy. This is a rather large and uncomfortable illness, but I don't want to have to worry about feeling ill anymore.
I also have a really really bad cold right now. I lost my voice yesterday and it is still really scratchy now.
We did meet some really cool people though! I've been having fun learning Swedish slang (lol)
My computer may have been hacked... So I am stuck using the hostel computer because of reasons I dont' have time on this computer to explain... I don't think I can use my mac at all though. AUGH WHY IS THIS SO HARD?
In 5 days, I will be on a plane home where I won't have to worry about things like getting sick from eating. I have a list of foods that I WILL be eating in the month before I go back to school. I can't wait to be in Seattle and see my family. 11 and a half months away from home is enough for me.
I hope to update with stuff again before heading home. Love you guys~
