I'm about halfway through my first semester of graduate school and I am LOVING it. It's a lot of work, especially because there is really no oversight when it comes to my thesis, so I'm having to police my own time and I'm finding it difficult, but I'm making really great friendships with my labmates.
We actually just took a mini-vacation because we had Thursday and Friday off for Fall break. We went camping and hiking (to go "herping" -- where we look for reptiles and amphibians) and then to the zoo. It was a lot of fun.
I've switched the species I'm going to use for my thesis, but not my actual subject. But that does mean that I took care of (and continue to care for) a bunch of salamanders that I'm not actually going to be studying, which doesn't make me too happy since it's a huge waste of my time and pretty soon I'll have to take care of salamanders that I'll be researching so...not quite sure what to do with them.
I had to switch their diet, too, since they kept dying. Now I have to chop up earth worms every few days and it's highly unpleasant. Earthworms deathroll and release alarm cues and it's terrible :(
I'm still working on my cardigan, but I don't have too much free time. I really want to finish it but I've reached a part that is both time consuming and not mentally taxing so it's boring and difficult to motivate myself to do it when I do have free time.
Also I've recently been consuming ALL the Suits BDSM fic, even though I've never seen a single episode of Suits in my life. It's a problem.
Anyway, I'm not dead. I am enjoying school a lot.
