Well, this is my first official posting on this thing, and I have to admit it's quite awkward. People who use lj seem to go on about everything that's going on in and outside their head at that moment, as though the world were their personal audience at every posting. Me, I figure the only people who will see this will mostly be those I force to. ( Read more... )

I love "Carnivale!" I actually was going to post something on gothicamericana, asking if anyone else watches it. I've found that when I watch each episode the first time it airs, it interests me, but doesn't exactly grab me. However, I try to tape every episode, so when I watch it later on & pause it periodically, & really think about what I just watched, I absorb everything much better. A few episodes took me awhile to get through, but when they were finished, I was floored, thinking, "Wow--this show's brilliant!"

I've only seen the first two episodes still, but I think I will enjoy it more as I get more into the story. My sister suggested I skip the first season entirely and just watch the Second season opener, but I like circus freaks far too much to do that :D Plus, psycho preachers and Micheal 'Samson' Anderson from 'Twin Peaks'? Yeah, I'll be watching as much as i can.

Hey, I also saw on your site you're a fan of Bruce Campbell. Sometime soon Im gonna have to post my pic of me and 'the man' at a book signing!

And all this time, I thought I was the only one who always felt just ooooone step behind everyone else, especially when it comes to HBO series. "Six Feet Under"? Yeah, got into that the next to last season. And now "Carnivale". Amazing show, Southern Gothic all the way. I think Sixteen Horsepower should do the theme song. When will I be a part of the first wave of something cool?

By the way, sorry if I've been intrusive by peeking here.

Not intrusive at all. In fact, I got your post literally one second after I added you as a friend.

And 16 Horsepower, in my opinion, should do the theme song for EVERYthing :D
Can't wait to hear the music for Nick Cave's 'The Proposition'.

Nice to meetcha, Moonbeams!

Nice to meet you, too!

Have you ever seen "Wings of Desire"? It's an older movie, tres indie, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds have a cameo in it. It's really quite interesting, and you should check it out, if you can find it (maybe check some lower key video stores around your area?).

Heh, and I find nothing wrong with being behind the times sometimes with a hot thing...in fact I usually abandon something when it draws too much attention. I remember being addicted to X-Files from the second episode, fearing for its cancellation after the first season, excited when it was picked up again....then never watching it again when it became a status symbol. Same with Buffy, though now that it's safely away from everyone other than fans, I am rewatching and loving all the ones I missed.

As for being on the wave of something cool, think of this....you were the first one ever to read your livejournal...that's pretty cool :D

I am waiting yet to see 'Carnivale' as I just heard of a few days past. I am hoping to rent it and know so very little of,those are often the best experiences with films and such.
For my first veiwing of 'Dead Man' I was awoken by a knock at four in the morning by my neighbor whom had been watching it for days and realized I had to see it too...That second.
He was correct in his assumption, indeed.
The films 'Wings of Desire' and 'Far Away,So Close' are quite good and worth the hunt down also.

Hi there Saelok. Just wondering if you've gotten the opportunity to watch 'Carnivale'. I just purchased the soundtrack tonight and marvel how well sound goes together with imagery. The score is a tad too incindental, not too many themes or strong melodies, but in conjunction with the visuals it has great strength and dark beauty.

As for 'Wings of Desire', I watched it a long time ago, loved every second, and am patiently waiting to stumble upon a decently priced copy somewhere. Never got a chance to see 'Far away' though, although I've not heard good things about it. Can you suggest other good movies that have a good dark, mystical flavour to them?

I have yet to take in 'Carnivale' though I am thinking the soundtrack may be a risk I would willingly take. Your words add to the curiosity.
I am waiting for the DVD's to come out into the rental world as I know of no other means to take it in.
I shall think over the films....hmm..m...Will come back to this.
