Ran into a crazy person while walking the dog this morning. I had walked up to the park near the city hall, and heard someone yelling but couldn't really make out what they were saying. We walked the small loop in the park, and as I came back around, I could see an older woman standing in the street yelling at the old people who gather in the park every morning to do the radio exercises. As I continued toward the city hall building, she left them alone and started yelling at a guy who was bunting baseballs to his son in front of the building (the kid looked to be about 4-5 years old, so he was barely tapping them out), screaming at them to be careful because it's dangerous. Then she walked off and started yelling at the empty tennis courts, and again I couldn't quite follow what she was screaming about. The dog was unconcerned.
Radio exercises. There are groups of older people that gather every morning when it's not raining in the bigger parks around. Someone brings a radio, and they all do their morning touching of toes and light stretching near-calisthenics together to what's being called out on the radio. Several of them will walk a few courses around the park afterward. It seemed a bit odd at first, but I suppose it keeps them active, gives them time to socialize and such. There are a lot of people out there who should get out and do something of the sort, when you think about it. That being said, I'm not about to join them. I prefer my exercises to be a bit more strenuous. A little over a month (maybe two, now) ago I decided to start getting a little more exercise in, as I do a lot of sitting at the desk for work. After walking the dog in the morning, I alternate days of running (about 15-20 min), biking (30-ish min); various workouts of combinations of pushups, pullups, squats, or other body weight exercises; going to the pool on weekend mornings, and other stuff. I vary it quite a bit as I'm not training for anything in particular, so I'm just trying to do different things to hit most of the different major muscle groups and mix in some cardio/aerobic stuff for overall conditioning. I may drop some of it when I finally decide on a martial arts school here, and let that take the place of the workouts.
I have joined the Iaido class I spoke about a couple entries back, but they only meet on Sundays. Due to a couple of their events and summer vacations, I've only been to two classes so far, but they start up again next week, I believe. I'll be looking into getting my own sword soon, I think. One more thing to add to the list of skills/preparedness for the zombie apocalypse.
Looks like September will be a bit busy. Some weekend events are coming up that I'd like to go to, such as some Jedi Order and Japanese 501st events, as well as the Tokyo Game Show (which I may be able to go to for work) and the Tokyo Gift Show (which again, I may go to for work). And I still need to figure out what I7m going to do for this year's Halloween costume as well as start working on it. At least this year, i7ll be going to the NY Comic Con. Between that and the greater availability of supplies for costuming stuff in Tokyo than I had available in hokkaido, I should have an easier time getting ahold of the materials I need for what I want to do, once I figure it out.
