I mentioned a while back that I began the task of transferring my CD collection over to my computer using iTunes and was planning on getting a two terabyte external hard drive with my tax return so I'd have enough space to store them all. Well, I got my tax return Saturday and got me a new external hard drive, so the music transfer is in full swing ( Read more... )

Agreed. The uber processed pop-y sounding ones and the ones that are so overly preachy that you can't possible listen without wanting gagging on the lyrics. I've never heard of Demon Hunter (sounds like a video game haha) but I'm going to look it up now. Most of the ones I know were on the radio about ten years ago when I stumbled upon the channel by accident 'cause it was right next to the local hard rock/metal channel. I've tend to tell this story like a broken record, so there's a good chance you've already heard it, but when I moved to Toledo back in '02, I was psyched to discover they had not one but two hip-hop channels while we had zero here where I grew up. However, that excitement wore off quickly when I realized they had shit for hard rock on the radio and the heaviest stuff on the air there was on the Christian station haha. Anyway, one of my favorite Christian bands is/was a fantastic industrial band called Massivivid. Here are a couple examples, starting with the slow, but beautiful "Brightblur", which is what turned me onto them in the first place and then getting into their heavier stuff.

That album got them all kinds of Christian music awards, and then their next album Dressed To The Nines... Armed To The Teeth came out and completely blew my mind. Gritty and sleezy and fucking excellent -- they were no longer a Christian band, not that that's what I liked about the album.

And then there's Grammatrain, a pretty sweet grung rock band from the 90s, who just got back together and is still making great rock, and Johnny Q Public. Yeah this is one of those that it's hard for me to believe when I'm listeing to it now and then: http://www.playlist.com/playlist/19147685131/standalone
