So I just heard that Steven Tyler is leaving or has left Aerosmith and Josh Todd from Buckcherry is being considered as a replacement. And in other news, guitarist John Frusciante has officially left Red Hot Chili Peppers

I'm with ya on the Aerosmith thoughts, sdb. I can understand the guys wanting to go on and keep making music, that's what musicians do. To call it Aerosmith, however, and put someone else in there to do the front man duties - I mean, Steven Tyler? Yeah, kind of a big component of their overall sound. So, replacing that huge chunk of sound is going to really change the identity

i heard on a press release (i don't recall if it was an official statement, nor by whom) read on the radio that steven was back on the bottle and got the boot. too much drama, espeically on the tour. all his injuries, like falling off the stage at sturgis, were somehow booze-related. and the deal was, he had to stay sober. i'm not a fan of aerosmith at all. but i still agree with you. why fuck with something so many people associate as a classic sound?
rhcp is hard to imagine any other way. california love.
Yeah, I heard about that falling off the stage incident. I'm embarrassed for them. I like Aerosmith's stuff pretty much up through Get A Grip (the album with Crazy, Living on the Edge, Eat the Rich, etc), but couldn't care less about them for the most part after that with the exception of a song or two. And yeah, they've got to lose the "Aerosmith" name if they go on at least.
I love RHCP (it's Michigan love, too, Kiedis growing up about half an hour from where I live and all), but John isn't their original guitarist and it's not his first time leaving. That's why I'm not too worried about it. Plus, maybe a playing with a new guitarist will spark some new life.
The band Journey is doing well with the new singer Arnel Pineda that they found on youtube. Aerosmith can always find their next replacement singer on youtube. I'm serious.
Journey and Steve Perry are classic, but he's not Steven Tyler and Journey isn't Aerosmith. Sure, they can find someone that way who I'm sure could sing like or even out sing Steven Tyler, but it won't be Steven Tyler. Still though, it's a very similar situation (except Steve Perry isn't a drunk as far as I know) and you make a very valid point.
The history of music is unpredictable. When Peter Gabriel left Genesis back in the 1970s, I'm sure fans cried, "OH NOES! Genesis is dead now." But Phil Collins replaced Mr. Gabriel and Genesis went on to achieve more fame and fortune after Mr. Gabriel left.
It'll be odd to see Aerosmith without Steven Tyler. Sort of like seeing the Rolling Stones without Jagger. Or Hall and Oates without Oates. Or something.
And just for the record, I wasn't saying that I like Aerosmith any more than I like Journey, just that I believe they've got a bigger legendary status due to the band staying together and putting out hits for so long.
Isn't it time for Aerosmith to go their separate ways? Steve Perry still looks great and plays well, but everybody else in that band is kinda dried up and worn out. I mean Jeez Louise, Steven Tyler looks like one of those old ladies you see in the commercials for the Sit And Be Fit videos, for gossakes.
And RHCP will be just fine, thank you very much. They haven't had a stable line up for any length of time during their career. I say get shexsay Dave Navarro in there, he likes to fly his freak flag, so wouldn't he be a good fit?

I would be fan of a return of Navarro to RHCP.
