House Sitting

Nov 01, 2009 01:19

Ah, Halloween is officially over. For me at least. My head is spinning a little after about eight hours of games, drinking, fooding and just hanging out with a bunch of friends in costume. Good times. I was going to post some pictures, but my computer is being stupid and not cooperating, so I'll try them tomorrow. In the meantime, I wrote a poem for Halloween years ago and I'm gonna post it below for the hell of it.

House Sitting

You sit and watch
You watch and stare
But as you thought
There's nothing there
What was that noise
You know you heard
It's not the wind
And not a bird
Perhaps it's nothing
All houses make sounds
But it doesn't help
That there's no one around
You had a choice
You could've gone too
But you needed the money
And besides, who knew?
Was it a mistake?
Should you have gone?
You wouldn't be here
Too frightened to yawn
Despite the late hour
And morning not far
You'd go somewhere else
If you just had a car
But now you're stuck here
All alone in the night
Whatever made that sound
Hidden from sight
And there it is again!
Louder than before
It sounded like it came
From behind that door
You're just being silly
You should take a quick peek
So you'll know that it's nothing
And get some much needed sleep
So with all that in mind
You walk to the door
Doing your best to shut out
The sound of the floor
You gather your nerves
Open the door with a creak
And right at that moment
Notice something sure reeks
"I'll never house sit again"
You think with a laugh
That never quite makes it out
Your scream cuts it in half

writing, halloween, house sitting, poetry, life, my poetry
