I got pulled over for doing 90mph in a 70 zone on my way to work this morning. That's been my typical highway driving speed for the past few years and I've been taking this route for over two years without incident until this morning. Chalk it up to knowing this stretch of road and the drive too well. But one of the vehicles I blew past this morning turned out to be a state trooper and it was just dark enough yet that I didn't notice until I saw the flashing light in my rearview. He introduced himself and asked if I noticed when I flew by him and I told him honestly I didn't. I admitted I was just hurrying to work and obviously should have been obeying the speed limit. He then asked how my driving record is and I said "pretty good, I guess-- I haven't gotten a ticket in several years". He walked back to his truck to run my license and returned fairly quickly to tell me he's not giving me a ticket this time because I wasn't lying about my record. I was shocked because it's not like I was just going 5 to 10 over the speed limit. He said it wasn't my speed so much as the fact I didn't notice the cop that bothered him because that shows a lack of awareness that could be dangerous. I wanted to argue that I saw him fine and just didn't see the law inforcement paint job in the dark but refrained since he had already decided to waive the ticket. Anyway, I guess it's not a bad idea to chill out on my speed a bit and I'm thankful for the officer's pleasant disposition and mercy.
In other news, I watched the IGN Game Awards last night. I didn't know it was on until I saw a notification saying something about it on my phone. I had some time to myself and decided to watch it out of curiosity. I'm not a big gamer but I've liked videogames since I was a kid and try to relive childhood through games now and then. It was cool to see all the world premiere trailers, teasers, and announcements as well as a few of the celebrity guests and performers. I definitely moaned though when it was announced that a new trailer for the upcoming Star Wars movie will debut exclusively in Fortnite. Like, you have to be logged on and playing in order to see the debut of the trailer. The future is here, ladies and gentlemen. I've never played Fortnite and am perfectly fine waiting out the ten minutes it might take for others to release the trailer from countless other outlets.
Dinner is almost served, so until next time.
