Oh gods, I'm so happy I have a friend who has bought the first four Temeraire books, since our library has only the first one. I just finished the second one (Throne of Jade), and can I just say I lovelovelove it when the protagonist is given some ridiculously high rank/title, like Laurence now and Captain Commander His Grace, The Duke of Ankh, Commander Sir Samuel Vimes - it hits some coolness!kink I have, that a guy is a higher lord than his lord. And especially when it's along the veins of "oh bother, I'm a son of the Emperor of China now? Okay, but let's go cut the throats of those French buggers now!"
Any other books where this happens? I'm always open for getting more crushes on fictional characters!
Also, the second season of Rome just ended and I'm so filled with love for that. This will be the first series I buy (or ask for Christmas, anyway) on DVD. *nods determinedly* It was so full of male hotness that I could look at picspams all day. AAAAH.
It is rarely that a show has me proclaiming my love for eight or so characters in every single episode.
