My 3-year-old niece made me a card today and was bummed because she didn't know how to write her own name. When I pointed out that she was just learning letters, she said, "Auntie, I haven't learned anything! There's SO MUCH I have to learn!"

I was browsing on Facebook and not really paying attention, but that got me. I turned and pointed out, "You're learning every day. When I first met you, you couldn't even talk or walk! Look how much you've already learned!"

She seemed cheered by this and went to draw me another card, which she signed with an "L", the only letter she knows. There is no "L" in her actual name, so it made me smile. When I asked her about it, she said she knew it wasn't in her name, it was "L" for "Learning". Duh.

She's this smart at three years old, smart enough to know how much she doesn't know. She's going to be trouble this one.

A few months ago, she was refusing to let her mother put her seatbelt on and my sister told her, "If you don't put this seatbelt on a police man is going to take Mommy to jail. Is that want you want? You want Mommy to go to jail?"

This 3-year-old little girl responded, "Yes, 'cuz then I could do what I want!"

Trouble. Just saying.
