I haven't posted much on the LJ for quite some time, but I've been busy with the whole new job thing. Since moving to Minneapolis I have become really involved in my lace making.
I wanted share a few projects. For practice with my reticella I worked on a small pieced that I made into a sweet bag. I loved this project. It only took me a few days and it will be a great display piece.
Here is a close up of the lace.
Currently I'm working a secret lace gift. It will be a handkerchief when it is finished. I will be adding punto in aria lace to the outside. Right now I am cutting threads and weaving the foundation bars. I still have to decide on the pattern for the lace. I'll be taking a little break from this project to work on a dress for a friend back in Philly, but here is my current progress.
The fabric is a 3.5 oz linen fabric. It is not an even weave so it took some math gymnastics to get the squares to be square and to get even borders on each side. Somewhere I did mess something up. I have 19 squares down one side and 20 squares down the other. It isn't visibly obvious so I'm not going to lose sleep over it, but I will need to figure out why it came out the way in the future.
I'm also working creating a class for both reticella lace and punto in aria (ameilia ars method). I'm hoping to have them done for events this summer. :)
I'm extremely happy with my lace progress so far. When I am really confident in both basic reticella and early punto in aria I'll move into some of the more interesting forms like people and animals.
Really happy with the progress so far!
