School is done for the semester! Haven't gotten all of my grades, but did get a good grade in the really hard class. :) I'm going to have a t-shirt made that says "I survived Dyeing and Finishing" on the front and "Spring 2011" on the back. It makes sense if you have taken the class. Everyone who talks about it gets really quiet and their eyes look a little dull as they remember the time and mental pain of that class. :) Learned a lot, but also suffered a lot.
Really happy to take this week to just relax and not schedule anything in particular. :)
I'm leaving on June 11th for my summer internship, but until then i have time to work on some project of my own that have been sitting around.
Needle lace:
I am making some needle lace cuffs. That pattern doesn't really take a long time, but because of school I haven't really worked on it. I decided I hated working with the linen thread I've been using. I'm finding that the linen threads I've purchased just don't have the proper strength (the staple fibers are just too short or the twist isn't hard enough). The thread has been shredding and it looked fuzzy and unclear in pattern. I cut off the piece I was working on and I started a new one. It's only taken me a day to get back to where I was. :) I'm using a cordonnet special which is 100% cotton. It's similar to a size 30-ish perle cotton, but it is a harder twist and works up in lace beautifully and quickly. :) When I'm done with the punto in aria cuffs I'll make a reticella partlet and ruff (I have a 1590 dress design in mind for the end use)
Embroidery:
Going back to my embroidered coif. I cut off all of the gold work I had done before. I bought some better gold to work with and I'm hoping for a better result. I found an image of a coif that no one has ever reproduced before. It's a little later (1610-1620 don't have the exact date in front of me), but I loved how it looked. I'm going to incorporate some of the technique for that coif on the one I'm making. Should be pretty. :)
New knit collection:
This I won't be sharing until it's done, but I'm working on a new knit collection using paper yarn, hemp yarn, and raffia. Should be interesting. :)
Don't have any SCA plans for the summer, but I would like to visit with the locals while in Minneapolis. I also want to get some juggling in this summer. :)
