Office hours [all day]

Dec 15, 2009 08:52

I want to wish you a Me-rry Christmas, I want to wish you a Me-rry Christmas..."

That rhythmic sound you hear coming from Anakin's office? His head banging against his desk. It was in time with Feliz Navidad.

And he doesn't even know about the cookies yet...

The door was open!

It was a still slightly subdued Karla that knocked on "Santakin's" door. Listening to the radio last night (and wincing at Andy's comments) reminded her that she was fairly unresolved about what to do in regards to the whole potion fiasco. She had several people's opinions, but, well, this was an ethical dilemma. Best to talk to Anakin about it before making a decision.

"Excuse me? Professor Skywalker? Do you have a moment?"

"Of course," Anakin said, looking up immediately. "How can I help you, Karla?"

"I was hoping I could talk to you about an ethical dilemma I find myself in," she said quietly, looking down at her feet as she edged into his office, nudging the door closed behind her. "I could use some...not advice, exactly. Another perspective before I decide what to do."

Anakin nodded. "Would you like to take a seat?"

Karla sat, giving him sort of a relieved smile. "Thanks Professor. Oh, did Raven give you the cookies we baked for you? They're oatmeal raisin!"

...Sorta.

"They were definitely unique," Anakin agreed with a nod because I am assuming that thread will get there eventually.

She beamed at him. "I think I'm really starting to get the hang of this baking thing!" she said happily. "And I taught Raven everything I know!"

Darkness have mercy on poor Raven.

But the good mood inspired by their cookies couldn't last long as Karla prepared to discuss why she had sought Anakin out. "Professor...did you catch wind of any of the craziness from last week? Not the weekend, but later? Like on Wednesday?"

"I caught something on the radio," he admitted, "but why don't you put it into perspective for me?"

Karla looked away, still unable to directly look at anyone while she admitted what happened. "Tuesday, I stopped by 'Dite's store to talk to her for a moment. She had just made a lot of her most potent love potions for her grandson, Bliss, who arrived to pick them up. They went in the back to discuss the potion, and asked me to watch the store for 'Dite. Then a gremlin snuck in and tried to make off with Bliss's bow and magic arrows which he needs to do his job or something."

Karla still wasn't entirely clear on what Cupid's bow and arrows did.

"I couldn't vanish them, even though I tried, I really did. So we fought and I got scratched with an arrow and then the gremlin bit me." She frowned, the memories still very hazy and confusing. "I don't really know what happened after all that. I think the bite convinced me I was Puck and had to enchant the Athenians like Oberon had ordered. So....I stole one of 'Dite's potions and laced the pastries with it that I then handed out to the everyone in the theater," she finished in a small voice ( ... )

Anakin reached up to rub the bridge of his nose. "So a love potion, then?" he concluded. "And it lasted a few days?"

"'Dite got wind of something going on and managed to track everyone down and remove the spell," Karla said, drawing her knees up to her chest. "Thank the Darkness for that. And before then...most people were fixated upon one object of their affections. It was nigh-overwhelming, and that's for people who are used to training their emotions."

"I can't believe I caused that," she groaned dropping her face into her knees.

"But you didn't do it on purpose," Anakin pointed out.

"No, but that doesn't stop it from being my fault," Karla countered. "People were hurt and upset because of my actions."

"They are," Anakin replied, "but if they are reasonable, they will also understand."

"Perhaps..." Karla didn't sound entirely convinced. Mostly because she was still having trouble forgiving herself over this. "But that brings me to my dilemma. Most of them assume it was some kind of island thing, like the weekend before. I'm half-wondering if, well, I should just let them keep thinking that? It might be...easier."

Karla's body language suggested she knew that it was a bad idea, but her voice was filled with hope.

Anakin gave her a look. "Do you think that sounds like a good idea?"
